Suggestions: Warring Factions & Kingdoms
Played for some hours and the game seem to lack some life and colour. Also sorely missing late game fun. So here is something I would like the developers to add to the game when what are promised have all been delivered. You can make it as a free DLC after the full release.

Kingdoms: Economy & Trading

Firstly let's simulate a living economy and production line of a kingdom.

Add these locations on the map for contracts and roaming AI to travel: Farms, Iron mines, Quarries, Fisheries, Hunting Lodges, Lumber mills, and Highway taverns to name a few.

Each of these economic point of interest serves to deliver raw materials to nearby towns or villages via supply caravans (just use the trade caravan model), and each of it is controlled by an AI faction or kingdom. This creates interesting places for enemies to attack or occupy. Player can also visit specific villages to acquire cheaper food and repair tools.

Villages are supply centres for the raw materials gathered. The towns or cities are production centres. So we can have supply caravans or trade caravans frequent the roads ferrying supplies. Castles, watchtowers and fortresses are where military grade weapons and armors get supplied by the cities and towns.

Highway taverns are placed along long roads and serves as a stopping place for the player to rest, restock food, and acquire recruits. Which brings me to a suggestion to allow player company to rest in safety in places like cities and castles for a fee. I hate to get caught by enemies when I managed to run to a city and there is no patrol to save my men. So my company should be safe inside city walls when being chased.

Contracts will be more varied as well like recovering stolen weapon shipment from raiders, liberating an iron mine infested with undeads, kill wolves threatening game hunters in the forest, or meet with a kingdom's spy to deliver information about its rival kingdom at a highway tavern.

If the player didn't take such contracts after a period of time, the city or the kingdom's army will be dispatched to deal with the problem.

Kingdoms: Peace, Trade, and War

Having some kingdoms interacting with each other will certainly be a dream playing ground for mercenaries.

Each kingdom will want to expand their power and influence over the land. They gain territories by conquering the economic places mentioned previously, towns, castles, and villages. This will greatly affect the kingdom's economy and the best part is the player can have a hand to influence it.

Possibilities of having contracts to attack a rival kingdom's supply caravan, participate in a war for a month, escort diplomats to broker peace or trade treaty, or assasinate a noble en route to command troops at the front lines.

Player company get to face professional armies in a large scale field battles. Something to add to the invasion ideas of the devs.

Earn titles, and awards from the ruler of a kingdom; earning the company notoriety, fame, and prestige. These titles are not just for show, it will affect the starting morale of the enemy a player might face. Enemies would either fear (decrease morale), or hate (increase morale) the famous player troops in battle. Some roaming enemies could also avoid to fight the player either out of respect or fear.

Now I don't know how this can be made possible. I would like to see siege battles to capture a castle. Can be done in stages to conquer a castle for a faction like outer wall siege, courtyard battle, and inside the keep battle.

Perhaps after attaining such outstanding records and servitude to a faction, player get to own and manage their own fief. Perhaps become a Lord? ;)

boom, excelent idea, hit the mount and blade nail on the head! lol castle siege maps would be awesome too with walls and stuff (if there isnt already any in, not got that far)

it would make the game playable after you beat the big bad evil dudes as the kingdoms warring with each other would make it be continuous....... or if it conflicts with the big evil dude invasion, then maybe have it as end game material, like all kingdoms at peace with each other until you beat the big bad evil army thing and when you done that they get rid of their peace and set their eyes on attacking each other.... kinda like how politics works! lol got rid of mutual threat, then try take advantage of after effects of the war, like power vacuum

I don't think this will conflict with the invasion planned by the devs. It will be an interesting setting to have the kingdoms at war and then suddenly invasion pops in.

As you mentioned, depending on the AI kingdom behavior, they may wish to continue the war and try to hold off the invasion on their own at the same time, or they may forge a temporay alliance with other kingdoms until the threat is gone.

Who says mercenaries can't play politics; will the player fight for peace, go where the fat money bags jiggle, or wish to create an endless war by trying to prolong it?
