This makes no sense for looting
A nazchauchaha however you spell the beasts name, killed some raiders when I confronted both in battle at the same time, they killed most the bandits, I killed them all off after eventually, But I didn't get any of the raider gear drops, only the few I killed? this makes no sense, be nice if they could change the code to make it right. Also the beasts the raiders killed dropped nothing.

In BB armor can be destroyed. The "nazchauchahas" destroy armor with their claws.
Enemies killed by third parties never drop loot for you. You must try and be the one to administer the fatal hit

Yeah fair enough, does make the game harder, those raiders were still some good bait.

I always hated this mechanic of the game, it is why I hate fighting with "allies" they rotate my men into danger and away from kills while robbing me of loot. I've always wanted an update that either fixes this or allows me to target allies with normal attacks

There were 5 raiders and 8 maxed out (after eating raiders) nachzehrers I think its first hit, they got a few hits on some of them while I killed them off and only got 2 teeth. Was a wammy, nearly lost 2 brothers and half my dudes got trauma from being swallowed. I think they deserved more than 2 teeth haha.

works like necromongers, you keep what you kill :)
There is a mod that changes these "last hit" mechanics, and I used it for an entire run. I can't recommend it because the results do feel unfairly rewarding and thereby making the challenge significantly reduced. But could be fun enough to give it a try.

The balance would be wrecked if you can loot all the dead units, you only need to drag a patrol to a big camp and instantly skip 50 days worth of gear progression. It's necessary even if it's nonsensical.

"Balance" kinda goes out the window when I deploy 12 guys against over 25 units some of which are armored unholds, while the remaining 8 guys are back at camp eating or something

Sounds like an easy fight. What is your point?

Light snark aside, that is a more challenging fight but by the time a group like that exists you should be able to handle it and late game your party should be able to handle it without trouble. Is it that you do not like any challenging fights?

You need to remember loot is shared based on first hit. Its not a game like kenshi where you drag parties to towns to get wiped, youd be wasting time doing that in this game. And bloody oath mate, you gotta do a challenge, thats what makes games fun, make your own challenges, you don't play how people tell you based on the meta, that is laming not gaming.
Do I understand correctly that if I have a bro with bad aim compensated by a really big arbalest, with no ranged perks and I accidently kill allied zwihanderer or billman I can get their nice hat? And their billhook?

Yes
Ok, I start invest heavily into arbalests for all my brothers, meelee and hookers.

They will pay dearly for stealing that kill.
