How do you use bro's with two handed weapons
I don't know if there is something wrong with my character build or what it is - but these guys are nearly useless. Without a shield the goblins chew them up before they get to fight. Against Raiders they have to be one step from fighting or they are useless (with 2 steps they don't have any action points to make a hit). So seems like strategy is put them on back line and be able to rotate to front to hit...then retreat.

I've seen some threads about having many 2 handed weapon guys but what I find (around turn 100) is that they get wiped out

I have them on the frontline. They stand one tile behind the melee bros with shield. Rotation can be used but isn't necessary. Something like hammer bro works well; if it hits, it will get to hit again before the enemy gets its next turn. It also pushes the enemy down in the turn order so that the other bros get their turn before the enemy. In other words, landing a hammer blow means a high chance to kill anything it hits before it gets to move again.

The key is high m atk, to reliably land hits, as these bros will be more fragile. Works both as high ini/dodge/nimble and high fat/battleforged. Ranged can be dangerous to nimble but it's not a problem for battleforged.

Against goblins go straight for melee and use cover to help protecting the more vulnerable bros.
2h wielders are generally premium bros because they need to consistently land their hit while still not instantly dying to focus fire. For that reason low level bros shouldn't wield one, most of them simply doesn't have the melee stats to effectively make use of it.

As for mobility issue, you could use quickhand and have a reach weapon ready. Enemies will be more inclined to engage if your bro got a longaxe, then you swap to a greataxe and carve them apart. If they dont engage, you can still move and use the reach of the longaxe to hit someone further away.

Crossbow bolts to the head will one-shot injure anyone in heavy armour who doesn't have Steel Brow. By contrast, Nimble units without Steel Brow only take 10-15 HP damage through armour when an x-bow bolt goes to their head. Nimble units can become vulnerable, however, if a large number of enemy ranged units spam them with arrows/bolts and quickly remove their armour.

I dont know how you play but i usually play a defensive game with 2h bros with a backup of ranged bros and it works really well for me. I usually ignore shields early game to so i can get the damage bonus(good early game combined with spears). I usally try to bait my opponent so that they have to move into range of me so they might get the first attack but they only get one attack. Now playing like this, stars on mdef is a must on 2h bros and as you point out the bros with bad mdef usually die but i replace them with bros with good mdef potentiell. The only thing I struggle with is opponents with many crossbows.
In general you transition to 2h later in game with btetr backgound and levels that have solid mdef without shield.
