Mountains are not Hills
Maybe this is a one time occurance, but after taking an exploration quest to give my boys time to heal between battles I was given the instructions: "...find a place called Rattling Bones Graveyard on the hills to the north-west..." and so I did the sensible thing, check out the hills northwest of the city. After spending three to four days searching every last hill within a screen's distance away from the sity to the northwest, I found the damn site in the mountains northwest of the city.

Now I understand English may not be the Dev's first language, and my highschool German is pretty rusty, but I'm fairly certain there are two different words for the two different landmarks, Berg being Mountain and Hügel being Hill. Anyone else get a simular quest with a simular ending?

Additionally a question for the devs, given how long some of these exploration quests can take, why exactly are they worth less than 400 crowns? In fact the only way to make them profitable at all is to savescum, so was the intent to screw the player for actually taking the job or did you expect the system to make them far easier to accomplish than they apparently are? Because each and every exploration quest I've taken has taken a minimum of three game days to actually find the site due to horribly vague guidelines.

Screen?

The screen shows a location on hills at the foot of mountains. When pointing out the terrain of quest locations, employers always refer to the terrain of the very tile the location is at, not to the terrain nearby.

Both the directions given with contracts and the visuals of mountains are going to change with the worldmap rework we're currently working on.

Of course there was a single hill in that spot right next to the forest at the base of the mountain. Not saying it's bugged, just that the description was very vague and led to a frustrating search along more predominant hill formations before finally finding the spot nestled away on a single hill in a valley.

Also curious as to why the Exploration quests tend to be worth so little given the difficulty of the actual task, especially in regard to terrain such as mountains and forests.

Now that is a good question.

I can't even remember when I last bothered with exploration.
The risk may be low but the payout is never worth the time investment, unless you get super lucky and stumble upon your target right away.

They have always been quick and easy for me. Play strategically: do easy contracts before you hire mercs so your daily upkeep is low, save crowns and hire worthwhile men with stats and get good gear. This way you aren't losing 1 or 2 men every battle like in the youtube lets-plays XD

I play like the Russians and conscript as many as I can early on for as cheaply as I can, if they die they aren't worth their salt, if they survive, they'll earn their gear. In fact I've taken to calling my mercenary bands Paul's Paupers just for that reason.

Regardless most of those exploration quests are for exploring fairly dangerous places usually with orcs or goblin patrols in the area so you've been getting lucky it would seem, frankly the only way I explore is in force, 12 brothers as well armed, armored, and cared for as the money at the time can provide, and even then I still wind up in a fight or two against even or slightly weaker foes.

As for youtubers, most of them don't have a tactical bone in their body, so it's no surprise when they wind up doing something stupid and getting their brothers killed. I think out of the dozen or so games I've played I've only lost maybe one or two brothers till the end, when I get bored of the unit or bite off more than I can chew. Usually vampires... ♥♥♥♥ vampires.

lol "earn their gear" I like this, may keep me less attached to my mercs. But I will have to name them the "Band of Misfits"

Rofl ok I just started the Band of Misfits and got one of the best companion rolls I've had. One guy with deathwish and sure footing who has 10 melee and ranged defense, the other guy strong and the other guy brave with 50 ranged skill

Wow. Just hired my 'misfits', the butcher has a whopping 60 melee with 5 each defense and 62 hp. The retired soldier has an astronomical 63 melee skill and 15 defense with 59 resolve!! The miner is sure footed and determined with 70 hp!!! Unbelievable

Ludolf the Butcher has already been slain. I blame it on a bad world map spawn, having to walk so very far to another town that I didnt want to pay attention to an ambush.

Ironically, in the Band of Misfits i am having a very hard time exploring since there is a huge chunk of mountains in the middle of the map and everything is around it

Yeah, that's what happened in my current play through as well, huge mountain range in the middle with tons of tiny little hills around them makes exploring let alone getting anywhere a pain.
