Oath Takers
It's early, and I have only tried 4(6) starts thus far, but this might be the worst starting setup in battle brothers - might .... First, you start with only 2 guys. You start with a 3rd level old man in moderate gear (150 chest/110 helm) giving him mid 40's fatigue. Your 2nd is a 1st level squire, decent stats with both chest and helm at 200+ ... which means he can barely move. His starting fatigue 36 - 40.

In my first fight, my 1st level squire with 200+ armor went down to a thug with a dagger in 2 hits. In a 2nd game, my starting characters both survived my fight with some thugs, barely, but both had taken severe injuries ... but I had chosen the Oath of sacrifice which meant I couldn't heal any injuries for 10 days - lol ... ah the choices we make can really bite us at times ...

So, a VERY rough start with the Oath Takers origin but I will keep trying to adjust my approach. My best run thus far saw the old man hit level 4 and the squire level 3 before they both died horribly to thugs with knifes, daggers and picks.

switch the gear. make the old man into a nimble bannerman and the other into a duelist since he always has stars for MA, MD, and Int.

I really struggling with the anatomists start right now.
They are not really good equipt, not really good statwise and the NO CONFIDENT MORAL means you won't get the big bonus....they just keep dieing like flies.

It just makes me feel sooo...happy. Finaly struggling in this game again. Love it.

I'll give it a go. I did look at switching their gear, but there wasn't much difference in their fatigue levels - to start. Thanks Carth.

Would love to hear of others experiences with the Oath Takers.

Also want to thank the developers for the new DLC and for making a long lasting game that I continue to come back to even after long breaks. Every play through is different. Incredible design.
The tricky part with oathtakers are malus from oaths, you gain less xp, take less fights, and sometime, lot of malus are worse than it seems at first glance especially for early (fortification, sacrifice etc...), and the bonuses aren't that good, the oath you choose hugely impact the way you play and that's good.
The starting armors are great for beginning, even if you're lacking fat you can tank easily thugs and so.
For me it's more a 3skulls origin, you have to know the game well when picking oaths.
(and they wearing one of the most beautiful armor of the game!)

Goedendag is pretty good on the Oathtaker Squire. +20 matk and it solves his fat issues. First fights he can afford to ditch his shield in that armour.

Oathtakers are similar to Lone Wolf on day 1. They have no money and the first 1-3 fights might be dicey, but once you can get a few more bodies on your team then they can really take off.

can we find other oathtakers to recruit to our merry band, or will we only ever have the 2?

You can. They're typically pretty expensive because their gear is so good. Other origins can hire them too.

Not even close to the worst start, I have enjoyed my first run with these guys, got them an archer and another front liner in the first week, and they are happily mercing their way through the map. The oaths' benefits are way worth the detriment, no wages? hell ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ yes please... more retinue for being outnumbered? give me that retinue... :steamhappy:

Yes! Anatomists walk a very fine line indeed!

Anatomist start isnt too bad cos u get 2100 gold. Buy a bunch of cheap polearms and some cannon fodder. 8 men, 3 polearms, 5 frontline peons is easy to accomplish with so much starting cash. Like this, except that is after 1 successful fight already, but basically the first fight was that loadout but without the barbarian armor on the left guy. Polearms are super OP early on. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2776787423

I found a good map for Anatomist and Oath Takers. If you want to try map seed is HHILLCMDKL

I find that the oathtakers you can either play them similar to lone wolf, or get a few cheap bros to fill out the ranks and focus on upping their fatigue until the starter two can be more independent
