I want to start a fresh game, are there any cool mods you would recommend?

I don't like any mods that change balance. There are lots of QoS mods that give you extra info in battle and map, add x4 speed option etc. Check Nexus

Barbarian mod to recruit barbarians. AC mod allows capturing beasts for companions to use in the accessory slot like war dogs. Imagine dropping a hyena to chase down a fleeing brigand. Autopilot adds QOL features to the battle map that should be in the base game. There are several mods expanding the stat screens on the battle map that are useful for players interested in percentages and other stats. These mods keep the base game pretty much intact.

Not a fan of Legends myself, but it is fairly popular, so give it a look and decide for yourself.

There's a mod that gives you random bros as your origin, I like that one a lot.

There's some fun origin mods like the Beggar origin and Noble origin that restrict your hiring abilities to certain backgrounds among other effects.

Faster mod is nice, despite it being buggy.

If you want a mod that changes from standard significantly then i would highly recommend Legends, the scope of achievement astounds me. And its very active in term of new content.

I only use the Tabbard mod and Early enemy Champions that impact game-play. Legends mod reads like a totally different game to me. Sato's Established start and the Random start are also good (no special advantages).

I may try the "re-leash dogs" mod on my next run, I like the idea of being able to call dogs back instead of them getting slaughtered. The mod reads like it is balanced as the player can only let the dog loose a single time in battle.

I really that mod, as well. Also, you have to be within a certain range to use, no calling them back half way across the map.

CompareAttributes[www.nexusmods.com] - for ability to see actual recruit stat rolls, after you hire him. I.e. is he get high roll melee attack or not.

The Legends discord has 1804 people online right now. That's saying something about how popular it is.

I only play Legends myself with some added mods (The animal companion mod is really nice and has been synched to match with Legends)

Like mentioned before Legends adds so much to the game it changes a lot of aspects BUT you can toggle off changes to get an experience much closer to Vanilla.
Legends is a beta though (albeit quite stable) so occasional bugs and crashed can happen but the dev team is really awesome and often patches bugs swiftly.

I'd give legends ago (since I assume it improves lots of things).. but I heard it broke with the last DLC.
