Bandit Raiders
Anyone else having trouble with the scumbags early on? I'm talking day 3 after finishing off the tutorial quest to bag the Weasel. There's Bandit Raiders throwing around morning stars and padded leather or better, in groups of 6 or more. I've seen more of these guys than trade caravans now! You can't compete with that with level one characters walking around with farming tools. I kind of expected this to be hard, but at least let me pick up a contract and earn some money before you stomp me into the dirt! :steamsalty:

best strategy early on against them is to run them back to towns, the guards will help you and you'll still get loot/exp. It's funny I took an early contract which ended up being tooo hard and when I canceled it the town guards attacked me. LOL you break a gossip contract and the people want to kill you... omg...

I have not seen a single bandit thug, outside of the tutorial, either.

I did visit an area on day 5 which featured about 20+ bandit raiders or so, and it was basically directly between some normal towns.

My party has some mid tier equipment (stolen from other bandit raiders, if you got 8-10 people, you can take out a 5-6 strength raider unit with enough pitchforks).

Yep, the bandit raiders are brutal. Keep getting ambushed and decimated. The game have gotten a lot harder all right :)

I've taken to save scumming like a chump, and avoiding the roads around certain areas where I know bandits have hit me before. As for cheesing them into guards, that's a good idea but not exactly easy to do. Definitely would like to try it if I get the chance though, those dastards need a thinning out.

I had a funny battle where 18 militia men spawned on the opposite side of the map to me and engaged 5 bandit raiders, By the time I got there 4 raiders were left, and 8 militia.....

Everything is dangerous now, even zombies.....

I have the same problem too.
Right after first tutorial I walked out to say "Hello world!" I have 6 brothers with tutorial grade equipment. The very first raiders pack whipe me out... I mean - I can beat them, but with only with losses. But it is unaccepteable in the very bigining - I don't have gold to hire more!

So I've passed "load - try again" process for about 3 hours, trying to kill those raiders. No way!

Ok. Enough! I decided that this is area not for newbie farmer pack and avoided them.
I walked up to the nearest town to get any quest. No? Ok!
I walked to the second town and found it at last! Kill tha beasts quest! My happines stayed no long - those hellmade weirwolfs cut my farmers into *****.

-------------
Ok... I am doing something wrong, I think. Game obviously turned to be harder. Fine, I like chalanege. But... Is there anything I could competite with those 6 farmers with forks in da hands?

m8s! How do you earn your first money?

I mean - guards is not the way. Not my way. Is there low level territory or smthng?

THanks!

upd:
p.s. plaing on second difficulty

I think difficulty must have taken a serious step up with this upate. Just like the rest of you, the early bandits are wrecking me before i have a chance to gear up. Even with help from town guards (that get totally wrecked in the process) im having a tough time and its still first week ingame.

Mybe a slight nerf is in order? Could be too early to say for sure, but it just feels a little too like getting stomped for just being past the tutorial..

Got 5000 crowns earlier for nailing loads of bandit raiders when patroling roads :) payback for all the times they have wiped me out xD

Direwolves are even harder than Goblins! Every time I have fought them they have killed at least one brother, they all but wiped me out once.

In fairness Goblins are no where near as bad as they used to be as Ambushers appear to be quite rare.

Loot is a lot harder to find as well, my first undead location had almost nothing.

A tip for surviving direwolves: they like to go 3 melee attacks a turn, so outfit your frontline with spears (spearwall) and/or swords (riposte) to turn the tables on them. Not only do you get bonuses from slash or pierce with these weapons(direwolves are weak to those apparently) but the basic abilities they give you are really useful on high AP targets. Use spearwall to keep them away for awhile and get some free hits in, when they finally step into melee use riposte to soften them up, and then finish them with normal melee. It's rough but doable. I'd still rather face 12 ghouls than 4 direwolves though. :steammocking:

What's crazy is the random encounters. In day four I had one that spawned 10bandits (mix of raider/thug) and just got destroyed. I have experience in the game and was playing deadly but that's crazy.

There just shouldn't be those kind of early encounters that just attack you from no where. Unless we are fighting ninja bandits there shouldn't be encounters like that and if so should scale better.

Bandit raiders are basically middle level enemies. Youre not supposed to fight them before you have a full sized party and at least basic to medium level armor / weapon for each person.

IMO the best way of dealing with them is to go 6 melee and 6 ranged bros.

After you get that sort of company, you pretty much go around and farm these guys until you have 110 armor for everyone on your team. They also drop good and useful weapons. Things you can use to beat the top level enemies.

Sure, but they are impossible to avoid. In every game I have played now, there have been an overload of bandits early on roaming around the countryside. I even met group of vampires that wtf-killed me in 4 turns.
