Second most useless feature: Brawler background
If diverse backgrounds are to add any kind of flavour to the game they have to be even a microscopic amount of useful.

I got one of these early on in my group and decided to throw him in the mix bare-fisted against some unarmoured opponents.

He did like a half HP damage. Combined. Througout the fight.

I dont really like the taunt effect for brawler (lorewise) i dont see how taunting is a boxer specific skill. A taunt would be better on the minstrel I think or the jester.

Edit: oh I see what you mean, change the background so instead of being a professional fist fighter hes just one of those guys who starts fights in pubs for no reason :p
Basically yeah. You know, a trash-talker street fighter kinda dude. Doesn't limit yourself to unarmed combat but still has the same personality type basically.
how about if the indian katar was introduced (or another such punching type weapon since indian weaponry wouldn't fit the setting) or maybe have heavier armour effect unarmed damage; ie a mailed fist packs more punch than the naked fist.

Punch daggers and fist weapons and unarmed damager dealers in general is definitely cool but it doesnt really fit with the low fantasy western europe style of the game.

I doubt the devs will introduce these types of weapons and gameplay - although I would not complain if they did.

Or they could make it so unarmed attacks damage fatigue instead of HP.

Punch someone into exhaustion? Just a thought.

I agree. I don't think punching really fit into this world of swords and shields very well. Unless of course your weapon breaks, in which case you're probably better off fleeing.

I would emphasize that the Background and Traits are a big part of the backbone in this game. Therefore, any tweaking or improvement should result in a big plus for the game.
They made some good improvements between pre and post update, but I hope to see more before final release.
It sounds like they are certainly working on improvement. Not sure if they have a grand vision or how much they're paying attention to all of the commentary in the forum. But hopefully they have a good roadmap layed out.

I know for sure they read these forums I've seen a few devs post on here. I'm sure they're lurking in the background, remembering all the people who talk smack about the game and taking them off the Christmas card list.

You should be proud, that's the closest i've come so far to caring.

No problem man, you just came off as pretty pretentious, next time you'll be ready though.

Yes, I know they do read them, but there are a lot of overlapping threads and redundancy, so I'm sure it's very trying. Heck, I spend a lot of time in the forum, and I skip over certain threads.

Yeah i think stamina or stun would be the way to go IF they wanted to make fist viable in any way.

He was my best early front line fighter the brawler, just for his HP % raise. Later game of course he would become less useful. In a party of beggars and thieves however, he was a class act, until he lost his head which made him a bit less useful.
I like the ideas for the Brawler being tossed around, which leads me to my question. What if, instead of (or in addition to) heavy unarmed bonuses, the trait granted a couple of special unarmed attacks, like slam, toss, or headlock? Something in that vein? After all, the guy is not a boxer, but a pub scrappper. Anything goes.

Reducing the AP cost of a punch to 3 would make brawlers more attractive. Would be fun to smash a bandits armour with a pike then have the brawler finish with a hook in the same round.

Headlocks or slams would be cool. Seems unfair fist only get the basic strike when every other weapon has at least two different abilities. Or a kick to create distance?

3 AP punches would be kinda cool, but doesnt PF halve the AP cost (rounded down) so that would make 1AP PF punches. Fists of Fury! :p

I agree brawlers should have a set of special abilities unique to unarmed combat. I'm not sure how a "slam" would be animated in-game. But maybe it could be like "break arm" to half an opponent's accuracy, or "throat punch" to take away all their fatigue and make them basically immobile for a couple turns until they catch their breath. Headbutt to make them stunned, etc.
Personally, I don't think it's wrong that unarmed is essentially a weapon of last resort. Is it weird that there is a background that does +100% damage with the worst weapon in the game? Kinda. Does that mean they need to buff this weapon? Not at all. Unarmed should not be a serious choice for a main weapon in my opinion, it shouldn't even compete with the lowest tier of weapons. It doesn't need fatigue draining throat punches or kicks that push the enemy around. It doesn't need to come with free perks like taunt or debilitate, or even special attacks like stun. I find the fact that you can even damage armor with your fists pretty silly, it would be much worse if there were brawlers running around throat-punching hedge knights and orc warlords.
