Lindwurm Tavern Rumors
Hail Brothers.

New to this game, and after having my brothers die many excruciating deaths as well as killing Hoggart the Weasel like it's Groundhog Day, I have finally managed to get a well-built company to about day 50 where killing basic groups of baddies is not such an impossible task.

I have, however, noticed this "Lindwurm" creature pop up on the map (and try to chase me down) from time to time, but not wanting to risk my company's survival fighting these legendary creatures, we high-tail it to the nearest town.

I don't want to go online and spoil the surprise of what it would be like to fight these creatures, but I don't want to go in blind and risk my longest-lasting squad either.

So I ask you, my brothers, to dispense with some "tavern rumor" styled hints at exactly what I might be facing. Don't spoil too much, but please give me some advice as to how my brothers might fare in such a match-up.

Thanks, and may your swords always be sharp, your spears always true.

I talked to one of 'em Beastslayers a couple of days ago. Told me his friend got eaten by one of those dragon things. Said, his new armor melted away like butter in the sun. "You'd better keep ya distance and don't get hit by their blood," he said.

Give me twelve tankards and I'll tell ye a tale of my brothers, fierce and taciturn men, all... But I warn ye, the story may go south somewhat as I toast each of them in turn.

A few Fellows were here the other day. Said they faced a huge monster. Managed to chew throught halve a dozen of them before they got it down. Couldnt believe it until he showed me these giant scales

I was part of the First Wolfenburg Company once, served under Sir Otto. Not anymore though. Whole company ran afoul of a few giant lizards in the hinterland. Bastards thrashed through armored men, snapping them apart like twigs. I ran like my life's depending on it, never looked back. No one else returned that day.

Could be only a runor, but i swears a man told me he got cut out alive by his brothers before he could be dissolved in foul foul juices. He fought on he says.

Hard to believe. I don't know what to make of it! Was he inside the beast or were the beasts insides outside on him?

Or is it all lies?

We had a troupe of dragonslayers in here a few nights ago, decked out in armour with serpent scales vaster and more obdurate than any I've ever seen. From the tales they told, you'd have to think them the bravest heroes in all the land to take on such beasts, but Bertolf claims to have seen their ilk at work and says the real secret to it is to fight like the biggest pack of cowards, either hiding behind the biggest shield or keeping a safe distance from those lashing and thrashing tails, which seem to have a sentience separate from that of the savage jaws.

A mercenary captain in this little hamlet, huh? I've been in your bloody business. Until some bloody Lindwurm made a bloody business of all my men, that is.

'Ad wurm-killer in 'ere t'other day, 'alf 'is face all freshly burned away, real mess 'e wuz. 'Ad a set o' armour all scaly an' bright though. On each scale 'e'd chiselled name of a bruffa what fell ta dhat foul-blooded beast. Were a lot o' diff'ent names on dhat armour, an awful lot o' diff'ent names. An' dhey only fought one of 'em. Said dhere were two o' 'em beasts down Sandy Desert way but 'e was 'eading North. Barbars from now on for 'im 'e said, nay more wurms for 'im...

I once encountered a fellow with a small company who wanted to get himself a new pair of snake leather boots. Heard he left in the next morning and went searching for the lindwurm that was spotted not long ago close to this town.
All that was found later of his company was a pair of legs still in their boots. Everything else melted away. Not a very bright fellow sadly.
