Successfully Playing Coop In a Jank Way
My friend and I have been able to play Battle Brothers "coop".

I say "coop" because this is a jank way of getting it to work, but it is relatively easy and has worked well for us. You'll have to use your imagination to take turns and share the mouse. This doesn't change how the game works.

Basically, you are using the Steam Link Program to Link to the host's computer. It works well with games you can do game council with, like turn based games, since everyone is going be using the host's mouse. This isn't Remote Play Together; this is everyone is linking to the host's computer and has full ability to use the mouse and keyboard of the host's computer. Imagine everyone playing is at the host's house sharing the mouse and KB. It works even when the computers are not on the same network, which was our experience.

Here is how we did it:
1. Have a friend or friends that your really trust (they will have full control over your mouse and KB via Steam Link)
2. Everyone must have their own Steam account and the Steam program installed
2a. Host must own the game, in this case they need Battle Brothers
3. Everyone (We had host & clients download it and it worked) must download the Steam Link program: https://store.steampowered.com/remoteplay#anywhere
4 (Client Step). Open the steam link program
4a (Client Step). When scanning for a computer in which to link via the "Computer Settings", click on "Other Computer"
4b (Client Step). A 4 digit pin number will show up for the host to enter (more on that in a bit)
4c (Client Step). Stay on that screen until the host enters the pin
5 (Host Step). Open Steam
5a (Host Step). In the top left corner of Steam, click "Steam > Settings"
5b (Host Step). Go to the bottom of the list on the left and click "Remote Play"
5c (Host Step). Click "Pair Steam Link"
5d (Host Step). Enter the 4 digit code given to you by the client (your friend)
6. Once the code has been entered, the client's computer will verify and do some background stuff to check the connection
7. Once that is complete, the client can then choose the host's computer to link to
7a. Keep in mind, this will give the client the ability to fully use your keyboard and mouse (you can even Alt-Tab out of Big Picture and show your desktop, watch YouTube together, etc.)
8. Big Picture Mode will open on both the host's and client's computers
9. Once that has booted up fully, both players can move the same mouse and interact with the computer
10. Pick Battle Brothers to play and enjoy!

Note: I was able to use my controller as the client and use it as if I were plugged into the host's computer, so controllers may work, but I don't know how well since we didn't really test that
Note 2: In the remote play settings, you can set an additional pin for security, so the client will have to enter that pin once the connection is being established.

Thanks for the detailed description! I might need to try that someday, too.
