Opinion on Tortuga A Pirates Tale & is it similiar to BB?
So i always thought i kinda disliked turn based strategy games but then two weeks ago i saw battle brothers on stream and quickly decided to uy it with all dlc's and boy i got hooked.

Now 120h later, i realized I do like turn based strategy after all and was looking for more games like BB and i stumbled over

"Tortuga A Pirates Tale"

which came out a week ago, unfortunately its only on epic so i'd only buy it there if its really 100%. My question now is if anybody has already tested it and maybe can give some info how it compares to Battle Brothers? I'd love an similiar experience like BB but in a 18th century pirate setting!

2 games which are similar to BB, though likely not as good:

and this one

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1661360/The_Book_of_the_Game_Adventures_in_Leman/

as for that Tortuga game, since it's an epic exclusive, I've no interest at all. Should it be available somewhere else later on, steam or gog, maybe yes.

Battle Brothers is a genre-defining game IMHO, there aren't many things like it; but in a similar vein XCOM comes to mind, and I've heard good things about Warhammer 40K: Chaos Gate.

About "Tortuga - A Pirate's Tale".
From my personal experience in Tortuga it is not even close to BB and definitely not 100% awesome.

Best game in the subgenre (turn based squad games) after BB is Xcom 2 imo. It's quite different from BB of course, but I would 100% recommend if you haven't played it yet.

Wartales looks nice too and is often referred to as a BB clone, but it's not procedural and unfinished.

Battletech is pretty close to BB, you manage your band of mercenaries and roam around doing contracts... only you're managing mech pilots and travel between planets. Nice game.

Gloomhaven is cool at least as a physical board game, but I hear the PC adaption is pretty nice as well. Turn based combat with cards.

Other titles I keep an eye on include Chaos Gate: Demonhunters (Xcom in Warhammer 40k), Expeditions: Rome (waiting for price to drop) and The Iron Oath (needs much more time in the oven to tell if it will be good).

I'll also put Vagrus: The Riven Realms here because I love it, but it's more about reading and stories than turn based combat. The same applies to Wildermyth.

If you mean turn based games in general, that opens up the entire 4x genre with games like Civilization (I prefer Civ V), Age of Wonders, Heroes of Might and Magic and so on.

I have not played Expeditions: Rome, but the first entry of the franchise (Conquistadors) was pretty good!

Heron has a great list. I think my recommendation would depend on what you like about Battle Brothers.

If you like challenging combat, creating synergies between characters, and spending time on tweaking abilities and testing out builds, I recommend TROUBLESHOOTER. Hours of content, with a 2nd story DLC being drip-fed to us, plus a sequel planned. No custom characters though- each is a story character with his/her own personality and a subset of selectable classes, meaning each will have a mostly stable niche role to fill within the team.

King Arthur: Knight's Tale is also a great game. Less freedom than TROUBLESHOOTER, as the game path is more linear, providing story and sidequests that cannot be repeated, but has a varied cast of characters, and encourages multiple playthroughs because not all can be unlocked in a single pass. Don't expect the level of customization that Battle Brothers offers, but it does have some great tactical combat and allows for some very OP builds.

Cascade Tactics is still in early access, but is shaping up really nicely. Plays in a similar way to Final Fantasy Tactics, allowing you to freely change jobs between levels, but you can also equip another job as a secondary, creating some satisfying combinations. A single dev is building it, and last I checked he's working on enhancing/finishing the storyline.

I have it, and while I really enjoy the basic core gameplay of it, what it desperately needs right now is more content.
I have some decent hopes for it.

I am a big fan of TBS and I can say that I have not found anything that competed with Battle Brothers. Something like Urtuk which is a fine game on its own; is a flickering candle to Battle Brothers' roaring fire.

I'd recommend looking for TBS games that are mechanically different from ones you have played before to avoid subconsciously (or consciously!) comparing them. Right now I'm replaying XCOM 2 and having a blast specifically because it is not like Battle Brothers.

And now on to whether I would recommend Tortuga:

Haven't played it dk lol.

Rimworld originally wanted to be a mercenary company simulator. Its a pausable RTS so it feels similar to BB in many ways.

There is also Pit People which is from creators of Castle Crashers, an actual TBS

Both games have a functional multiplayer (in case of Rimworld through mods)
