How is the DLC integrated?
Is it something that is woven into a campaign? Basically should I wait to get the DLC to start a campaign?

There is no campaign. But the DLCs are well integrated into the world. You can enjoy the game a lot without DLC, too. The DLCs make the game more complex and add a lot of new challenges that can overwhelm a new player.

DLCs add a pretty decent chunk of content, so it would be advisable to start a fresh run when you get them.

The warriors of the north and the blazing desert dlc... are those integrated into a standard campaign or are they separate 'campaigns'?

If already playing game then you should know there no such thing call 'campaigns'. Unless you mistake meaning of word 'new game' and 'campaigns'.

Game is not 'campaigns' but sandbox with random generate mob & event. DLC add more content to those. You can add DLC to your before DLC game save file but not all content may appear. If you want all content to appear you need to start new game after add DLC.

DLCs don't add any new maps or unique scenarios, they add content to whatever map is created when you start a fresh run. Some of it may be missing if you get DLCs and continue to play a run you've had before it.

In BB you travel on a world map in search of randomly generated quests and non quest enemies.

The DLCs give you more enemy types, more equipment, more buildings, a northern and southern climate zone with appropriate content, new systems like crafting and so on. On every map you start.

DLCs also give you access to various origins, which are basically different starts into the world (in terms of men and equipment) with permanent and often unique special rules (e.g. peasant militia origin: you can field 4 more bros in battle but are restricted in who you can hire, just to give an example).

Forgot to mention also DLC allow you to access to various 'mods' which add some better quality of life and even more contents. Not all mods need DLC but pretty much most of them did.

When I read the Blazing Deserts and Warriors of the North descriptions, it made it sound like those are almost alternate maps to the base game. But from what you all say, if I own all the DLC and I start with the standard games 'faction', the blazing desert and snowy north parts of thee map are in that new game. When I saw 'campaign' I mean a fresh map start, not a single player story.

Assume that by "run" or "map" we mean the same, and yes, owning the DLC makes the snow/desert regions and everything that comes with them part of any map that gets created from that point on.

The description just made it seem like the desert factions and area was its own 'map'
Thanks a bunch
