Helmet Advice?
I've heard different accounts of what is recommended for helmets and how much critical damage really is. Some say it's 1.5x, some say 2x, etc.

What's your guys' advice and what amount of armor Helmet do you aim for in mid-game, and in end-game? Is there a soft cap where effectiveness is reduced, or is it like armor, where more is always better?

Thanks for taking the time! :coffee:

35+ at start. Try to get at least full aketon caps asap. Switch for rusted mail or nasal helmets (looted). I buy closed mail coifs for ranged once my body armor is decent, then don't upgrade for quite a while (sure, head hits happen, but 105 armor seems to be working well enough for me). I also go first for 5 defensive perks, so Brawny is long in coming (does not seem to be too detrimental, heavier armors are expensive anyway so can't buy them early on).

End game is closed mail coif for ranged/melee hybrids, and whatever fatigue allows for frontline fighters. I try not to go below 70 fatigue.

Also, all my blockers get steel brow, so that probably impacts my survivability with the 105 helmets quite a lot.
Yeah you get the nasal helmets A LOT, so that's pretty great. I've been giving mail coif and rusted ones to the backline so there's no vision penalty. So I guess I'm fine then? I've got the Padded and non-padded Nasal helms on my frontliners (110 and 105).

I got a 250 helm from some bandit, which kind of led me to asking this question in the first place, like how much is necessary and after which point is it no longer worth the fatigue.

Armour is generally worth the fatigue if you have prepared for it (-50% fatigue perk and boosting fatigue every level). As a minimum my guys are now in at least scale/full scale (my 2 handers get coats of plate)and a 250+ helmet and my lowest fatigue is around 80.

My Halberdiers are armoured like my front line as there is no real 'frontline' when Orcs are involved, plus they have the perk that adds body armour to damage.
My archers are still in mail with a closed coif due to vision and fatigue reasons but I have to be extremely careful with them as they are very squishy.

If you don't prepare for heavy armour then virtually no one wil be able to use it effectively as you will run out of fatigue very quickly. I consider this a serious falw in the game as it is not well sign posted so by the time you have access to 250+ armour its entirely possible that you won't be able to use it and late game enemies will eat you (more easily anyway).

Well I've played long enough to know that you ALWAYS level up fatigue on the front liners, as well as archers. Halberdiers can get a pass because I make them my Captains anyway, so I give them Resolve instead.

Does better armor ever get sold at Marketplace? I love buying damaged stuff for a better price, it just seems so very intelligent and fun to do. Buying it new at the Armorer is ridiculous and it's like stabbing myself deep in my heart when I think about spending 5000 on a piece of armor =\

The only armour I haven't seen for sale is the faction stuff. Coat of plates etc is quite rare but does pop up every so often.

Faction stuff? what do you mean? Do I have to get a certain level of reputation with them to see this?

The armour that the human faction leaders wear. I don't think that you can buy them though.
oh ok. By for sale you mean at Marketplace as well?

Armourers are the only place to get decent armour. The best that I have seen in a marketplace is chain mail.

As with body armor the more the better with head armor, assuming you can take the fatigue and vision hit. Don't put a -3 vision head armor on a short-sighted Halberdier, or you won't be able to swing two squares at night (annoying!).
The best armor I've seen sold in a marketplace was a (damaged) hauberk. And that was the only time I saw it sold, with "Allied" reputation for that independent major city. Mail Shirts appear every now and a while, but have yet to see anything better.

Pretty much armorers (with Blast Furnace and high reputation with the controlling faction) are your only source of high end armor right now.

I've answered this on four other threads so far.

Base damage on a headshot is +50%. 1H Axes have another +50%; for a total of 200% damage on a headshot.

Brutality gives another 15% damage on headshot.

As for armor ratios... on a frontliner, you want at least 200+ head and body armor. I run 215/240 on my non-tank frontliners.

As usual, it really depends on whom you are putting the helmet on.

But generally I put 200-plus on front-liners, 150 on crossbowmen or crossbow hybrids (200-plus if Eagle Eye), and 90 on archers (150 if they have Eagle Eye).

Before a nerf to the PF I used to have my x-bowmen naked.

Now I suggest to you to take points in fatigue EVERY levelup, always take the brawny feat, and always put on the best armor you can get :)
