Best way to farm unique/legendary items?

I've pretty much reached the point where my squad has the best possible equipment, barring uniques.

What's the best way to farm them? Is there any easy way to keep on finding bandit leaders?

Go out and explore , places far away from the cities and towns have an increased chance of giving a unique weapon , as you already know hunt for bandit leaders AND keep checking in armourers , weapon smith and fletcher buildings in towns and cities , they sometimes sell uniques .

As WithinTheFire said, the further away from civilisation and the more guarded a location, the highest chances to drop a Named item.
Sometimes, tavern rumors also provide hints to find Named items.

Im gonna call out everything i know.

1. Bandit Leaders, Orc warriors and Orc Chieftains carry uniques naturally. They have an unique skin so its easy to tell. If you have the stamina and will to do so you could actually just retreat and reload the autosave until the enemy ot an unique, because the equipment is completely random.

Or just kill as many as possible, gives some nice money.

2. Taverns. Very rare tho.

3. Upon special locations. Ruins/fortresses tend to give you unique's sometimes, as well as orc "cities" and i guess also goblin cities.

4. Buying. Best way is to visit all stone keeps/stronghold in a row an revisit them after some time.

About buying : i never saw some unique equipment in a city where i wasn't allied. So i recommend you to be allied with the faction that have the best shops.

About looting : you should not find some bandit leaders but some hedge knights !!!

Look at the hedge knight's weapon at battle beginning, if it's a unique weapon of the type you want you fight, otherwise reload the autosave until the knight spawn with a unique. Found my 1hand axe like this.

Dont think being allied raises the chance, only lowers the price.

I once started a new game and found a 40k armour in the first city i have visited (lol)

And yes, i kinda forgot the hedge knight. Bndit leaders are better tho, as there can be up to 4 in an army.

Hedge knights only 1 as far as i have seen.

I never saw a bandit leader holding a unique weapon. But i'll pay more attention to them now.

both battle gave me unique.

Do you get more uniques on higher difficulties?

I have a +500days playthrough on beginner and only got about a dozen of them, not a single shield, mostly armor helmets I had to buy in towns.

I slay every Orctown, bandit hideout and ruin I can find as far away from the cities as possible but no luck so far :(

oh nice, didn't realize orcs dropped all sorts of unique equipment. thought they only dropped unique orc equipment (i.e., the heavy fatigue stuff that is nigh-unusable)

that's right, fight some 30 orcs or just find a little berserker camp on the borders of the map. Got two uniques shield from killing 8 berserkers in beginner.

Its not that Orcs drop the unique's, its the base.

There is a lot of RNG involved. I had a discussion about this a few weeks ago.
I also had a run where I found a 20k unique platemail in a shop in the first week.
You can get them from random quests too. I once got one by destroying a bandit camp, and another where I met an orc warrior with an unique falchion while I was doing a caravan mission.

Farming hedge knights can easily yield some unique weapons
Sword master/vampires/skeletal fallen heroes alike,but the chances are lower
Knights in noble houses also have high chance carry rare weapons,But it's relative hard to provoke them

If you hace the crowns,you can also buy rare gears from large and wealthy cities.
Mind the traven rumors.
