Bolas
I am currently trying a bows/throwing weapons backline to change from my usual 6 crossbows build. Is there any point in using goblins bolas rather than throwing axes or javelins ? They do less damage, do not cost less in AP or fatigue nor do they ignore armor or have any specific feature, as well as being much harder to come by than human throwing weapons. Am I missing something or are the bolas just bad ?

Carrying them around costs slightly less fatigue. Not a very useful foundation for a build.

Not missing anything. Bolas suck.

Bolas tickle my battleforged bros and increase their moods :steamhappy:

Another thing to add on the long list of why fighting goblins just isn't worth it (if there isn't an Overseer among them). I assume the crude javelins used by young orcs do not have any "hidden" advantages either ?

Crude Javelins much better than bolas. I love them!

Its only use I found is having them as a throwable on melee bros for geists, since it has low fatique reduction whilst Geist's only need to get hit once, I believe.

I wish bolas would have a chance to make an enemy miss a turn or either moving or attacking by tying up feet or chest/arms. Definitely would make my avoid goblin fights even more but it would make bolas actually usable :D

The simple fact is that goblin balancing and AI management involves bola's. The extra projectile means they don't have to engage for an extra turn. The reduced damage reflects on the sheer number of ranged attackers they field in a battle. The bola's help dictate the strategy for fighting them on an open field without line of sight cover wherein you need to engage them as soon as possible to stop your characters becoming fatigue capped early from multiple projectile hits.

I've had instances where i'm at 74/74 fatigue on my easiest to hit ranged target by the second turn and i haven't even swung :(

They are an early game cheap option if you can't get anything else. So they don't suck, but they have a time and place in your game.

I just started a campaign where I'm killing goblins absurdly early on. Don't even have a bow, but my one ranged guy (a 250-300g poacher) is using crude javs from thralls instead of bolas :P

I don't think I've ever even equipped bolas. Sometimes I wonder if they did the goblins' poison effect before poison was implemented.

Although Ronin makes a good argument for their continued role in the game -- fatigue sappers for the AI.
