Do we have any info about that?

Unfortunately not as far as I know.

Steam now lists Battle Brothers as "playable". Seems to work fine except for some minor UI stuff.

I don't expect mine until 2023. :brotherskull:

Ran it on my Steam Deck, but the keyboard function doens't work when creating/naming my company. I can type, but I can't delete characters.

I actually only play this on my phone via steam link..I can imagine the deck being fine if I can do it on y 6" screen.

I'll get a deck this week if everything works out. Bit the bullet and ordered a 64 GB model at a somewhat acceptable price on ebay. I'll be happy to share my experience once I've done some testing.

I've gotten mine too the other day, I seem to prefer one of the alternate controller layouts made by a different user (ps4 controller layout?). It will take a bit of muscle memory to get used to quick play using the steam deck, but clicking with the A button seems much better than the trackpad or triggers to me. This configuration also allows to the text: spacebar " ", "T","I", and "X", which I can use for labeling units for their potential, but on-screen keyboard support would make it so much better.

The performance is superb, the battery life out to be good since it runs the game really well, unlike a laptop I bought to play BB years ago that would lag on the world map like crazy.

My only true complaint is that my cloud saves are not synced (despite saying so on both devices). I have saves from 2 months ago, but not saves from today on my steam deck (pretty sure the new saves I create do pop up on my pc version tho). But I'm fine with having separate runs for different devices. Somehow this desync could be a personal problem, but I am unsure.

"Fast clicking" to direct your pathing, while also moving the mouse doesn't truly work the best, as it ends up panning the camera with a click and drag half the time.

It'd also be nice to have an easy way to scroll through your inventory/market, or also have a key assigned to leaving the shop screen. Additionally, the ability to cycle through abilities with a highlight on the abilities like a console game would be good, but assigning # hotkeys does exist and the clicking of abilities isn't too inconvenient.

Edit:
  • Bound scroll up and down to right trackpad up and down.
  • Made a custom configuration to include all the important buttons, taking out lesser ones like R for the relations menu, and de-emphasized elevation buttons.
  • Also bound backspace to a button, and with that combined the steam deck keyboard, you can fully type now.
  • I tend to use show obstacles a lot, so I made a bound to that as well.

The only existing issues would be:
  • The slight inconvenience of not being able to "Fast click" on the world map for better pathing without it wanting to drag your camera.
  • Opening the steam keyboard manually isn't as seemless as a “click text box to open keyboard”, and having to bind backspace to a button instead of the onscreen keyboard working with backspace.
  • Sometimes upon exiting BB (normal main menu exit) is puts the steam deck in a loading logo loop (easy to get out of, but inconvenient).
  • Default control schemes are pretty bad compared to community made ones.

    Edit again:
  • Turns out my save issue was from having used too much of my BB dedicated steam cloud (despite still having like 60Mb) saving/storing old saves and deleting them in-game got the cloud to recognize my more recent pc related saves on the steam deck.

Where do you download these? Haven't figured that out yet. My self-made layout was ok, but not super convenient.

Click on the game in your library, then it shows a screen with a big banner, a play button and other info, there should be an icon that looks like a controller, click it, and then you can chose different layouts under the current layout tab where if you click your layout it will show to menu options (templates, and community layouts) community layouts is where the user layouts get uploaded.

The one I use is the one by Ryan called Battle Brothers PS4 Controller, I've only tried the default and dev0 Battle Brothers, but Ryan's does the trick for me enough so far.

On another note; if you hit the button with the three dots on your steam deck you can pull up an on screen keyboard or hit STEAM button + X, it will allow you to type where your cursor is targeted, but deleting text doesn't seem to work (backspace).

I've put in around 60 hours of BB on my Deck. I think it runs and plays great. I shared my controller configuration since I didn't see any other ones for Steam Deck. I based it off dev0, but modified it so the right stick is used for ability selection. I kept missclicking abilities on the dev0 version.

I also changed the DPad a bit. It now moves the mouse cursor by a points in each direction, roughly the distance of a tile on the battlefield and the distance between traits.

After around 40 hours tho I became super comfortable with the trackpads (have experience with the Steam Controller too, so mileage may vary) and now just play it as if it's a regular PC game.

But feel free to try out the configuration I shared. I tried to hotkey all possible commands so definitely check out the actual config to see how I set the repair keys.

Happy to see all the feedback! I hope it will help me enjoy BB on the deck as much as I do on PC! :)

Good to hear all the info about the port, i was wondering about one more thing, how long does the battery last when it comes to games similar like bb?

The battery life isn’t too incredible when under load (and there are settings for limiting cpu and whatnot specifically for battery saving).
I’d say it lasts 3-5hrs under BB load without optimizations, and could last a couple hours longer or so with the power limiting (it can run BB well enough to afford to do that as well).

If I were to go play a fan whirler 3rd person rpg it would last about 2hrs, and if I were to play a rogue-like or low intensity turn-based game I could expect like 4+ hours roughly, with the same power options unused to make it last longer.

Nothing to be wowed over, but definitely good for a handheld running full on pc games.

Edit: Noticed it runs pretty much same battery life as idle (5hrs), which means it is pretty much running the most optimally (may still respond to increasing time away from charging if lower power consumption in settings tho)
