As such, this is a request.
My best solution to this dilemma is to add something to his first name like "Brother (his name)" if he is worth keeping, "B." or "Bro." if he is promising, but it is not obvious that he is worth it, or adding nothing if he is fodder for the meat grinder.
Ps: Not sure if any little additions are going to be making it into the game at this point, so it is probably better to adapt in your own way.

Hitting up the barbershop and beard ranking works fine too, and requires less creativity. Clean shaven or adolescent looking mustache for meat, short beards for promising guys, big bold beards for veterans with a dedicated build.
There is literally no logical reason to regard this addition as a negative. Good Day.
