Swordmaster fight in the Arena

Last fight of the tournament pits me against 3 champions. Hedge knight and hunter were tough but fair enemies. They do some damage but are both put down. Swordmaster is complete ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. It's basically impossible to hit him with melee attacks because even 100+ matk bros have 5% chance to hit him while having him surrounded, and ranged chances aren't that great either. 4 javelins and 3 flying axes to the face were not enough to kill this walking sack of crap and he basically 1v5 my bros because nobody could hit him in melee except for that one hit that basically just tickled him awake

I have over 1000 hours in Battle Brothers and have been playing since release, started playing BD dlc just recently and this has to be the dumbest most overtuned enemy in the game. Why is the arena tournament the toughest fight in the entire game?

consumables, my friend. daze pots, fire pots, nets, whatever you got. fire pots to make sure you damage him and the other to keep him busy in one place.

And throwing weapons. BRing some nets and you can wreck him in a couple of turns.

Having fought him I can see that nets and such along with plenty of ranged damage could bring him down but I literally had no idea an enemy this difficult would show up out of nowhere in an unavoidable fight. I think there is a huge break in difficulty for this guy compared to everyone else in the arena. I've seen that new blade dancer guy twice and both times he wasn't much trouble

Yeah, the Swordmasters in the arena are OP, we all agree on that.

not in 2 turns, he has decent armor and hp pool with nimble. even with nets and 90 ra it's like 50-60 chance to hit. a bit unlucky and he 1v5s even with nets and best possible set up. don't need to be a bit unlucky for 2 of them to kill your whole squad.

Weird, i just fought this tournament yesterday and altough hard, he's definatly killable. Had a swordmaster /fencer of my own and none of my bro died. Got a magic sallet helm out of it also. Had a tank who kept taunting him, so his attacks were wasted. If i recall i had 40%ish hit chances in melee on him. A couple of hit and his moral and injury makes him even easier to hit.

but anyway, its BB, no everyfight is meant to be fought. Not sure if im making this up or not but im pretty sure at one point in the arena i was suppose to fight lindwurms, i conceeded and moved on without anybody dying.

I'm pretty sure at least 6 of my bros can each 1v1 a lindwurm and win, I'm still not 100% confident I can kill this guy 5v1 without being fully prepared. So idk what you were fighting but it was not the apparently infamous arena swordmaster

You only looked at his tankiness.
It also depends on his famed weapon. When it is a nasty one, your tanks facing him are toast in 2 turns no matter how strong they were.

Im not saying he's easy, im saying ive beaten him without really knowing how hard that guy is. Maybe i got lucky rolling 1s and 2s without noticing ? I got a day 400ish davkul band, with the helm of helmrock or w/e its name is, i got the davkul armor and shracks shields that regenerates hp. Ive had enough sacrifices to have all my bro at the top davkul lvl, meaning bonus to defense, bonus to hp stamina regeneration each turn. Hey maybe iv ejust stumbled in there with an overgrinded party or maybe you unfortunatly fought him with a team that shoudnt have,

But im sacred of fighting lindwurms, and almost lost my best bros to a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ 28 snakes band.

Yeah a tournament ending with a swordmaster champion group basically requires a good taunt tank combined with a good throwing weapon bro, i.e. with throwing mastery, duelist, unique or barbarian weapons, better than 90 ranged attack. Taunt is needed or else he just walks away from your tank to rapidly kill somebody else, usually the ranged bro

I beat him with nets, fire pots and that magic clever, i forget what its called. Could of been a lucky hit but after 1,000 hours you know that sometimes those hits do happen.
i'll be interested to see if they devs change it or if they say...well thats battle brothers glad we could surprise you.

You sure you were fighting the "champion" variant? I've fought both champion and non-champion swordmasters in the arena. Even the standard (non-champion) swordmaster can do some serious damage and will cause your bros to only have around a 40-50% hit chance (even with very high matk). It's the "champion" variant that is devastating. There really is no comparison between him and lindwurms, you'd take the wurms every single time.

Nets, pots, and throwing weapons are the only consistent method I've found, and even then, it's probably 50/50 if a bro dies. It's never really worth the risk, I only do tourneys if my company is so overpowered I consider them to be arrogant and surviving the loss of a top bro or two is manageable.
