Yeah.
So basically game over?
Anyone actually beaten this true Iron man? I've gotten as far as round three but always drop out because of how dicey round 2 is and my bros are too injured/ armour damaged to continue
I got really lucky with an archer, shield bro, and 2hander once. That was a beginner difficulty run, though.
...if you specialize for the tournament you could go 5x dagger-overwhelm-dodge, each bro can basically cripple 1 enemy with 3 overwhelms and if you get a champ you can do 6+ overwhelms on him
What about your two other bros? What did you win? I think even if you did it beginner that's still pretty impressive on true iron man. What day was it and what were the compositions you were facing like? I find sword masters absolutely savage in the arena because of their tendency to target any ranged units you bring with you
Yeah I agree. The arena, including tournaments is pretty doable if you specialise units for that purpose. I do however find it difficult to build units with the arena purely in mind. In my current run I've just been using my standard battlefield units in the arena on fights i know they can take and have one guy with 20+ wins.
I did try a tournament today and 2nd round was 8 mercenaries (7 mercs + 1 sword master). I won without any losses but it was way too close for me to risk round 3. Quite frankly round 2 was way too dicey, more bad luck and i could've lost my best 5 bros.
Even if you would have perfect squad arena tournament would still be huge risk for small reward. No matter how good your guys are those arena champions are way stronger.
For Ironman runs arena tournaments are just bad idea. First round would of course be ok. Not much risk for good team, but last round reward would be just way too low for the risk. Even with perfect squad those champions would be dangerous. At start you would have to kill their henchman so not enough overwhelm stacking and because overwhelm requires high iniative can't have good armors. It wouldn't take much time for champion with 2h scimitar to kill someone and if that would happen it could fail very fast and no more perfect squad.
One item is just not worth risk. Safer to just clear locations and hunt normal champions.
They seem not worth the risk. I wouldn't even attempt it unless I first gave myself permission to savescum but want to try it just for the challenge. A simple fix I think would be a warning of what the next fight is before committing to it, so you can drop out if there's a champion swordmaster and you have no ranged guy, e.g.
The pro that I haven't seen mentioned is that going through the whole tournament gives 15 points towards the 5 guys having the arena traits, which normally would take 5 days of arena fights. So if you want more resolve and a 50% chance to survive if struck down on endgame guys, it's helpful in that regard.
