Also, named armors have lower fatigue cost so you can outfit your battle bros and and still have them able to fight.
Look for a discussion on how much fatigue you should have after your bro is fully armed and armored. It can be as low as the mid 60s all the way up to upper 80s depending on loadout and perks.
Since they use less fatigue than bro that use 1-hand.
Brawlers and Squires also have good start Fatigue
Light Padding Replacement attachment saves some fatigue
Stars in Fat helpful.
Basically you need next fat values at 11 lvl
~25 for non berserk 2h mace/axe (but need pathfinder)
60 for berserk 2h mace/axe
70 for 1h weapons
80 for berserk 2h sword, berserk 2h cleaver
So for 2h axe you need
60 base
41 (300 coatOfScales + 300 fullHelm + brawny)
16 2h axe
=> 117 total fat at 11 lvl
for 1h mace + shield
70 base
41 (300 coatOfScales + 300 fullHelm + brawny)
10 winged mace
14 heater shield
=> 135 (which is quite high, so only farmers, wildmans, lumberjacks can easily reach it)
Traits like Iron Lungs (+3 Fat recovery/turn) and Strong (+10 Fat) are very useful. Athletic reduces Fat use from movement.
Avoid traits like Fat (which, ironically, costs you -10 fatigue) and Asthmatic (-3 fat recovery/turn).
For perks, you'll definitely want Brawny as others have said.
Other perks that either reduce Fat use or increase useable fat include Weapons Specialization (reduces fat use), Bags and Belts (eliminates fat penalties for carried items), and Pathfinder (reduces fat use from movement).
You can also use the Gifted perk to add +4 fat to a bro.
Lastly, in addition to named armor, helmets, and shields being lighter (usually), some named weapons are also lighter and/or build-up less fat when used.
And as others have said, do not just look at stars in fatigue. Look at how much fatigue your guy has at level 1 when you remove all equipment. 100+ fatigue at level one is solid, especially with stars. 120 fatigue at level 1 is awesome even without a single star.
I didn't even know there were maces in this game. :o
