Equipment Repairs
Okay, a quick question -

What's more cost efficient, repairing your own equipment with tools you buy (for a moderate price) or using a blacksmith at an armorer? Also, what are your thoughts about a blacksmith/scavenger combo as retinue members?

Buying your own tools is basically always more cost efficient.

Blacksmith/Scav don't have much synergy (to my knowledge The Boy doesn't give you tools for your own destroyed armor - might be wrong), but they're both alright. I don't think much of the Scav personally.

Using your own tools is more cost-effective, it just takes longer.

As for Scavvy and Blacksmith, I love them both. As JCSato mentioned they don't synergize directly but both retainers help make my company more self-sustaining (along w Drill Sgt, Cook, and Surgeon), which I am all about.

Hmm, interesting. I have the Alchemist, Cook and Scout. I like the Scout, and the Cook a lot. The Alchemist... He's alright.

Each tool repairs 15 durability, so if you buy a pack of 20 tools for 300 crowns then each point of durability repair costs 1 crown. Blacksmith repair cost is based on item value, I remember seeing a small town black smith repairing high durability but low value items like clubs and gambesons cost effectively, but checking in game quickly at a citadel they wanted 2 crowns per durability to repair a wooden club. Its probably not worth instant repairing unless you are desperate for some reason, or you just want to unlock the blacksmith retinue.

Ahhh, okay. So, what kind of costs should I be paying for tools?

I try not to pay anything over 250 for tools. Depends what I am doing and what my plans are for the next few campaign days. Sometimes early in the game its worth just not repairing so you can pick up cheap tools later. Usually brigands drop lots of fresh 50 and 60 durability armor so you can just wear new ones and throw out the broken ones instead of repairing.

Try to get tools at max 225, preferably 200. If you get friendly with a faction, you can get tools at below 200.
