and assassins are a better theif that can some time come in with the top tier assassin armor and helmets, it they do have the specific armor and helment it is worth it alone just to hire them a grab their gear then retire them.
melee nomad is 25 or 30 % cheaper than lvl 4 raider and has identical stats.
Early game, indebted are seriously good value for money as they cost 0 in wages. Later on, Gladiators are invariably a very good option as they come with good equipment. Gladiator armour is very decent kit until you can get heavy armour. Assassins are also good value for money and have a fairly decent skill distribution. Nomads are just not quite worth it, though. Hunters are flat out better.
Thats already a realm of minmaxing and if so then you should only hite hedge knigts anyway. Aside from early game trash backgrounds, many could be competitive, stars and traits make a difference. In other words, nomads and raiders will both do fine provided they have stars in right places.
Price difference is fairly negligeable at the point when you can afford to hire these guys.
When will you ever need to buy 4 guys at the same time? At most I buy two, and that's after big defeats.
