-defense option gives you an extra corner wall in the north-west. useful if you are weak to flank attacks from that direction. useless, or even problematic, if you are not. pretty neutral to my own strategy.
-the extra units mostly just get in the way, but there is no penalty for killing them yourself so you can just look at it as extra xp, but they tend to disrupt my strategy more than assist. once I got a team with two mortars though... that was ALMOST helpful. Gotta admit the mortars looked cool though, and made a fun sound effect. it's just that they are so slow that by the time they fire, I typically have killed anything they might have hit.
-searching the area produces 3-5 pieces of random loot.
