You are probably building your team suboptimally to have problems with them. There are some specific tips as trying to snipe the necromancer, but again, it shouldnt be a problem if you have a half decent team.
At levels 3-6, shields and one hand weapons of choice. Brothers with low melee skill, 50-60, use spears and swords, above 60 flails, axes and maces. I tend to stay away from the 1 and 2 tier maces due to low damage.
At levels 6+ you should have Nimble or Battle Forged. If your bro has at least 20 Melee Defense give him a two handed weapon for the high damage output. Two handed swords for the buff to hit chance and chopping off heads work well. Decapitated Wiedergangers don't regenerate.
Snipe at the Necromancer if he is dumb enough to come within range of your archers. If he doesn't move forward you need to move everyone towards him. Keep a melee bro on trail covering the rear from regenerating zombies. When the necro is within range start taking shots at him. Usually his morale is wavering by this time after watching his army get slaughtered.
Reviving zombies don't get to attack until next turn, meaning you don't have to kill them right away if there are other zombies around with actions still. You can get backline zombies to waste their turns trying to move around if you leave revived zombies blocking the way.
Zombies have Backstabber and really bad melee skill. Don't let them surround anyone too much and they should rarely land hits.
Don't worry about the Necromancer, him being there causes a few zombies to stay back and guard him which means less zombies fighting you right now. Your archers are going to have a real bum time trying to shoot him so they might as well shoot the zombies attacking you instead.
Basically don't break formation, formation is life,,,,,
1. Squad size: I try to have at least a group of 8-10, better 12 BBs raedy for fighting - no injuries, resolve is less important as Wiedergaengers are a Tier1 enemie and not very fearsome, but resolve should be around 60 for Frontline and 50 for Backline)
2. Outfit Frontline: 6 guys with any armor you´ve got, equipped with a SHIELD and a SPEAR and as a backup weapons --> SWORDS - for the benefit of their"plus xx% to hit" chance.
2.1. Special items for Frontliners: If you dont yet have any 2H weapon users available (for me for example, 2H became only viable after some BB´s hit level 8-10) you should equip NETS and WHIPS - NETS to anchor the hard targets and make them come later towards you and WHIPS to disarm the DPS enemies like those with Pikes or weapons that cause bleeding etc...).
For stripping high value targets of their high value armor (like farming that nice 230 helmet from the Fallen hero) you want to have at least 6 brothers with DAGGERS in your team. Once surrounded by your BBs you can dagger him down without doing damage to the armor. And thereby increasing the likelihood of the item to become loot. But you probably knew that already.
HINT: never try to do more than 1-2 enemies with the dagger in parallel - dont become greedy like me (Ilost some BBs to get to those nice items), alwas equip shields when daggering the Undead - they dont have resolve and will attack until they are dead.
3. Outfit Backline: 6 guys of which 2 are Bowmasters positioned on the edges left and right of your Backline. Those guys have purpose only: hunt down the Necromancer. They are at the flanks to be able to bypass the frontal attack line of the regular zombie army and get the mastermind Necro at the back. As long as he loives, your enemies will r-surrect and therefore you have another priority goal: reach out to kill the Necro as fast as possible.
The other 4 guys in my Backline are my SEARGANT (with Banner, Mace-mastery perk and a 2H Polehammer with 2 tilkes reach, plus Rally perk and the seargants badge of course) and 3 CROSSBOWS with Polearmes, Pikes or any ohther 2 Tile-reach weapon like Longaxes as auxiliary weapons, once the frontlines have clashed.
3.2. Specials for Backline: I sometimes give 2 of my BBs in the backline WHIPS to disarm special Undead like Fallen heroes or high value targetsd with good armor , shield or helmet and weapon for safer farming :) and also use NETS to block attackers that focus-in on my flanking Bowmen
4. The tactics:
-) 1st round --> Let the enemy come, dont move or attack with long range unless you have a hit chance of > 40%. You want each arrow to make a hurt. Take on the armored enemies first to weaken up their armor before they reach your frontline. Those fights tend to take time and if you didnt bring ammo backup, you might find your Bowmen and Crossbowers out of ammo right when the heat is on.
-) Your Bowmaster at the flanks move sideways and forward as soon as the position of the NECRO is known. Make sure you are always 3 tiles away from any enemy so they can´t stall you when you approach the Necromancer. Bring NETS or PIKES also on BOWMEN, it helps (the Quick-Hands perk comes in handy)
-) Your frontline should wait and do nothing (pass turns) until the next attacker is close enough to move and hit you in the next round. This is the time to sdpearwall all 6 frontliners. If you have frontliners with fatigue 70-75 after armour, helmet and shield, you can do 4 spearwalls until you´re exhausted. During those 4 spearwall-rounds, the enemy will not yet thin out significantly, bur they will be beaten enough to become easy fodder for your frontliners. Because now, just when the last BB has reached the §no more spearwall-limit" you switch to SWORDS and Slasher-weapons and start mowing down whats left to come towards you.
-) In the meanwhile your flanking bowmen make a large radius, half circle (it can easily take 4-6 rounds to do the bypass movement in safe distance to the attackers) moving towards the necromancer and use their high accurracy to make the long distance shot to kill the enemy.
I can alo recommend to watch "FILTHY ROBOT fights" on Youtube - he gives you everything from loadout to formation and movement that you can whish for. And he also sheds a light on each special enemy and how to deal with it best.
Final experience: Wiedergaengers can be done with Spearwall, independent of your level of BBs. As soon as they mix in Fallen Herose, it becomes a level - issue for me, because my loadout is level-dependent and I am levelling ultraslow and only have TIER 3 armor when getting towards level 9 of my BBs. I have not a single famed item yet. So trust me - if I can beat Wiedergaengers with this tactics, everybody can ::
Happy new year to all BBs out there!
Necromancers can’t res units that are being stood on either. It allows you to push forward and get close enough to tie the necro up which nullifies their casting. The buffs and the ressing. Really effective with small numbers especially if it is just a necro and some brigands.
Having an archer or two will often lead the AI to hold a couple back to meat shield the necro which will help limit the number crashing the line. Possibly even allowing you to snipe the necro early.
I find these very effective at any point but especially early game. It trades mobility for fatigue so you don’t really have to use resources to prevent the res. Also speed helps greatly as ressurrections don’t seem to happen in the early rounds without a necro.
