An awesome series!
So to begin in referance to The Black Company (which I own majority - North and South Series), the only seemingly direct referance is the one I posted above. When you begin the games tutorial battle your captain and first officer are slain, and if you inspect the top left bar of the screen it says "One-Eye" has been killed.
It could be entirely conicidental but it fit with the subject matter of the game being thus:
Your the last remnant of a Mercenary Company who just narrowly escaped their last battle with only three members remaining.
Now its up to you to hunt down the man who orginized a rival mercenary band to kill you.
The tutorial mission is short, but it gives you a nice "motivation" to move foward in the game at the start.
The atmopshere to me is very similar, especially in the quest/mission descriptions, your constantly talking to frugal lords who try to nick and dime you into doing extremely dangerous fights.
The magical elements are limited as well, there are few "Spell casters", but rather there are Goblins, Wargs, and Necromancers.
Honestly if your a fan of Tactical RPG based combat and like a challenge I would say its an easy pick up, as you can customize everything about your Mercanary Band.
My favorite part of the game personally is that each character has specific "Traits"and gains new ones overtime.
So for example I had a guy who already joined my group who was "Superstitious" and "Fearful", then we got attack by a Necromancer and some zombies and he was forced to kill a member of our team who had been slain and raised back from the dead as a zombie.
Afterwards he had a "Traumatized" trait, where the horrors of battle has decreased his Resolve.
It really is a great game, if you have anymore questions let me know, Also I think Green Man Gaming has it on sale for 15.99 if you want it 20% right now!
Sadly right now I can buy it only here on steam store without discount but thank you anyway. I have a feeling that I'll not regret about spending money. By your description this game looks like a tactical treasure.
Well, I have an extra one, you could get that if you want. :D
edit. And I'm not joking, by the way.
edit. I meant as a gift. :)
Stuff like this makes me really happy. Hope this ends up happening and you make that persons day! :)
Merry Christmas, everybody!
I always carry an extra key for Battle Brothers in my purse - you know: It's better to have one and not need it, than to need one and not have it.
Haha I know this is a small community but hahaha this made me laugh so hard. you guys are hilarious. So glad I found this game, seriously awesome group :)
Than I realized I'm an idiot. Best of luck- between this and Darkest Dungeon (which should have insane illogical triats) I might quit my job...
