but I used most of my leftover money on him :(

I have trained hunters without stars, too. It is annoying, but they are ok. With quick hands he would be a good hybrid.
Or give him a crossbow. Crossbows need less range attack.

Better than a single star in ranged. He's a backline hybrid.

You're a backline hybrid, Harry

Now there's your mistake.

Playing recruit roulette is risky business at the best of times. Doing so with your last bit of cash is just asking for it.

That said, I recommend https://www.nexusmods.com/battlebrothers/mods/21 . Use one of the harder variants of the mod if you'd feel bat about cheating otherwise.

Hunters usually have ok base melee skill. With 3 stars he should get into the 80's. Even with no range stars you can expect +30 if you take it every level so he should get into the 80's there as well. That's generally what I aim for in a Hybrid.

Then once you have a super team complain to the Devs that the game is too easy on Expert Iron Man and everyone else needs to git gud

He would make a good backline hybrid as others have mentioned. Even with no stars in ranged he still starts in the mid 50s ranged skill and will end up in the mid 80's. That's high enough to reliably hit with any ranged weapon. Especially crossbows and throwing weapons because of the hit% bonus. With the new polearm mastery and quick hands you can attack with a polearm and a throwing weapon every turn.

he's currently lvl 4 and has 68 in both categories... dude keeps rolling +3s and +4s everywhere.

Throwing weapon+pike-hybrid.

I just noticed that this combo is better as I thought it would be, you could try something like that.

Even with no stars in ranged, hunters typically make fine archers. Of course, he sounds like he'll make a great melee guy too ;)

Also, throwing weapons are better than their reputation suggests.

I don't know why people dislike throwing weapons so much. A guy with throwing mastery + duelist does a ton of damage.

I don't think its really about people disliking it, nor is it because its not good or an effective way to play. Its more because the build itself requires specific perks and the proper stat allocation to make it worth it. If a brother has the right stats, this hunter for example, there really isnt any issue with going down that road.

Its often that people aim for a guy thats very effective in one aspect rather than being a jack of all trades which wont be bad or excel at any specific thing.

A team full of jacks...never thought to try it. Maybe if the whole squad were jacks, it would work tactically. Instead of super tank 2h, you’d have hybrids with rotate and crazy tactical perks. Would be more like a gang of samurai than a gang of midevil warriors...would it be viable?
