My Unhold methods.
Okay these big third leggers are quite troublesome but after many trials i think i have a general plan for you guys but be aware it takes patience.

Usually you have to remember a few things about them first, the first one issue is this they can regenerate, that makes them quite survival fit and unfortunately i advice against surrounding these unholds, instead try to pincer them from opposite direction, preferably some more nimble guys with good shielding and one hand weapons.
the open flanks are for 2handes weapon guys or marksman. That way you can wither down their hp despite their regen but that method requires your target selecting.
That takes to another issue that has to be considered. The other one has to be distractet with at least 3 guys if one more enemy, they would have to probably hold of the other Unholds assault of by a similiar pincer attack.
Now you are probably asking why opposite pincer?
The answer is this if you surround them then ther fist turns into swings and hurt atleast 4 members of yours at once, leaving them all with some broken bones.(Bad idea because in most cases also almost death.)
In a pincer well their attacks are rather straight, deals less damage and may be more dogable and the bonus is he has to waste 2 rounds on striking atleast each member respectively.
Even if one is knocked back the other can hold him on that possition.
And the last tip thats rather by chance if someone is about to die make them a shield up and move away, the shield up usually gives the chance to take the attack without consecuences.
Hope that helps you guys out.

I don't go quite as subtle... Also not quite sure how feasible all that maneuvering is when you're facing multiple opponents and/or constricted battlefield.

My recipe for unhold steak is as follows:

1. Lots of ranged firepower - with me it's 4 bows, 2 crossbows and 2-4 tanks holding throwing weapons
2. Focus EVERYTHING on a single unhold at one time. Absolutely no splitting attention. This way most of it's HP is gone before it even reaches melee
3. Once in melee keep on focusing attacks until dead - for me it's 1, max 2 rounds
4. While you shred 1 guy distract the others with dogs. If you can't afford to lose 2-3 dogs per unhold battle you really shouldn't be fighting multiples of them.
5. Once first one is down, focus on second. Rinse, repeat.
6. ???
7. Profit!

Hehe thats rather a method to keep the cost for heals low because one can really suffer by them and healing the whole team will cost you easy 3k crowns and beside the more they are exhaustet wich takes a bit the less likely it is for them to do much damage. And believe me shredding them fast is not exactly better if you have to somehow outlast them long enough in a crisis situation like fighting again right after that, and you will be glad to have most of them rather fit and battered then crippled and almost defeatet.

I think that they are very unbalanced. I've got two skull task for caravan guarding and after 3 days got attacked by 3 of them. 3 men got down when i killed only one, and while my other men were heavily injured 3 remaining unholds were healthy.

Well what can i say other then that, when surrounded they deal more damage flinging their arms around which gets many man badly hurt and or otherwise killed. Perhaps it was too early for you, especially when those Unholds comes in trio's. At last have 12 team members against those otherwise a loss is quite certain.

Take their contracts only if you are strong enough.

If you plan to take on more than 3 I'd recommend having several bros with indomitable. That stops them in their tracks. Even nimble bros.

I think whether monsters are a problem depends on your playstyle. I struggled with orc warriors first few games so my builds are mainly anti orc which pretty much slaughter unholds anyway. Hexen caused a rethink - still find them tough to kill without losing bros. Alps was just dull and 12 doggies - refuse to get naked and chase thats just BS. Of course this is not early game, unholds early game is just lead them to a warband, watch fight, claim reward.

They're pretty well balanced I think. You just aren't supposed to fight them on day 3.
I'd recommend against taking caravan missions unless you are confident you can deal with anything the game throws at you and you want to go where the caravan is headed anyway.

I've never had trouble with Unholds but I think my first run in was 3 on day 20 or something. I could see them being trouble earlier though.

If you are having trouble then net spam and goblin poison can really help slow them down. This isn't a very practical solution early game when you probably don't have these things but hey, it can help if you have some.

Many range bros is good, 4 archers with war bows can down 1 before it even reaches you. Melee should have cleavers and swords, two hand them if you are confident of dropping the shield. Two hand mace can daze them making them do a lot less damage.

Once I led some unhold to a mass grave, thinking that they'd do a good work of reducing the skellingtons a bit. Ancient honor guard with cleavers everywhere. Not a single ancient dead casualty, only armor damage. Still made my life easier.

tactics go completely out of the window when fighting 7 of these things, which I just had to. Total carnage.

1 tank per unhold (pincer if fewer Unholds, toughest nimble bros tank 2-3 if more Unholds).
Tanks just spam shieldwall, unless their current Unhold is close to dying.
Tanks should not stand on or near high ground (or any advantaged terrain, unless indomitable), any other bros should not end turns next to tanks. As long as you follow these rules, Unholds will only use smash attack instead of grab&toss.

Rest of the team focus 1-2 unholds at a time with ranged and polearms (ideally 1, but it's not always feasible position-wise).
