Noble sword isn't worth buying. Bascinet is nice but nothing too special.
Gear towards the builds you want to create.
I have 4 bros geared towards swords. With a full team of 20, I have brothers using all weapon types tho I am running archer heavy (min of 4 in the battleline) against anything except Orc warriors and Ancient Dead. I have some unique weapons but the only piece of unique armour I have worth talking about is another Heraldic Bascinet (Armr 320, Fat -20).
Its mainly, the Greatsword and the 416 armour. I can get the Gsword and the Bascinet.
When I start a campaign, I tend to favour defense as I am one of those people who have a tough time seeing my guys as cannon (orc) fodder.
I am at a point where I got past my 2nd crisis (Noble War and Undead) but yet to really fight hordes of Orc warriors.
Imo, weapons of the type you want are rarer than armour...though that is a nice piece.
I don't think there is a wrong choice between the two.
Good chance the armor will be gone in a couple days. I missed out on one like it to do one patrol mission to afford it without selling stuff important to me. On the other hand have seen a unique I didn't want stay for a few weeks, so who knows.
Hmmm, weapons do allow me to kill faster, meaning less damage taken if the opponents are dead. Thank you for your feedback.
Thanks for your feedback. The armour will likely be gone in 3 days... it triggered following a successful caravan run.
Second would be the greatsword. It has base damage plus both armor and arnor bypass increases. Normally I would say the bascinet would be second in this list, but the greatsword has a really great stat roll.
The Bascinet is really nice and will help give a bro some fatigue relief while upping his protection. It is just that the coat of plates is so much better and the greatsword has really good stat roll.
Named 1h sword, while not as prevalent pre-DLC, still has a high chance of finding on enemy units. Also, the new lighting sword is a guaranteed available named sword.
I would go with the bascinet. The gs is great but you can still cope with a non named one and unless you have many gs wielders, the bascinet can be rotated between your men while the sword cannot.
Thanks everyone, after look at the all advice given, I decided to go for the Great Sword and swing over to the other citadel to grab the Bascinet as well. I did make a separate save game as I would like to explore how it would be to grab the armour.
So far its great because I totally lucked out. I hit a random bandit fort during a goblin marauder contract and found an enhanced coat of plates with AR 400, FAT -40. Not as good as the one on sale but hey, its free. I paired the newly purchased bascinet with this armour for total AR 729, FAT -55.
@FredDie, I am not worried about FAT penalties this time around as I have a couple of bros with iron lungs and 3 wild men with stars in fatigue. Also got a couple of other guys with the strong trait. At this point, my entire melee line is scale armor at the min and my 'A' team in coat of scales.
