Ingame it only says: Bonus is reset upon landing a hit.
I never take Fast Adaption, but I think that goes for an AoE too and any hit will reset the bonus. not 100% sure though.
The only other niche use for it is on a bloodthirsty guy.
I really love fast adaptation because it is the great eqaulizer. It isn't usefull when you are winning but it helps a lot with bad luck streaks. So it prevents you from losing to bad luck wich is great in my oppinion. It is also wonderfull on any archer imo.
Yes you are right. no more than 1 stack in one AOE but you can stack morr than once
