Always broke :(
Hi,

I started my 2nd playtrough. I am now a bit more used with the caombat mechanics.
But alas, I am always broke. Whe arriving at day 20 or so, I have my band gathering 9 bros.

1° ) I never know if there will be a contract in the town I arrive.
2°) evenif there is one, it just makes enough money to pay the guys, buy repair toosl and food.

I tried to buy and sell stuff but I never know where to seel the stuff I just baught, so I have to go randomly to another city.

And the new stuff is so exepensive, that I can't afford any upgrade..

How not to be broke always ?
Thank you

(I read post talking about buying and selling stuff but I did not really understand how they managed the thing).

Each town is going to have a preset buying and selling rate that depends on several factors and some degree of random variation dependent on map seed. Generally though, smaller towns offer goods for cheaper and larger towns will offer you better selling prices (you buy in small and sell in large, generally).

Keep a fully repaired round shield in the inventory (or an antidote or any 100 worth item). If you can sell that shield for 18+ then that town is giving you a decent price. 20+ is preferred but hard to find early game. If they are buying the shield for 16 or less then probably wait to sell your stuff in a different town.

Trade goods (amber, dyes, salt, etc) are a bit different. If you can buy them for lower than their worth (you can see this by hovering over them) then do so and then sell them at a town giving you a decent selling price for some profit.

Gaining Allied reputation with towns you frequent will get you better prices both for buying and selling. It is a good idea to befriend and stick near a nice cluster of 4-5 towns and don't betray them on contracts.

Ambushed Trade Routes gives you a large selling bonus. It can sometimes be a good idea to leave a town with this status up (don't do the bandit contract that clears it) and use it as your primary selling point.

Buildings around the towns will make certain goods cheaper. One to look for is Workshops which will give that town cheap and abundant Tools. Herbalist Grove can get you cheap Medical Supplies. A lot of things can lead to cheap food.

Try not to buy things in stores you can get from looting. Buying heavy armor (200+) is a good idea once you can afford it but otherwise just live with what you can find. Don't buy weapons until your armor situation is under control. The weapons you find will do fine.

@Turtle225

I have a bunch of trash weapons I loot. I can sell them for a very low price. Are they worthy for anything else?

Thank you for your help.

Also some contracts usually just arent worth it. Scouting contracts for example make you run around somewhere and pay no good money. Trade escort contracts are only useful if you wnated to go into another town anyway. Focus in the beginning on bandit contracts or other contract that give you weapon and armor, to either equipo your guys or let you sell the surplus which basicly is an added bonus to the money the contract yields anyway.

Also in the beginning huge fortresses usually dont have contract for you until you get to good relations with the noble house so you can save the time/money you need walking there and just check the settlements for contract.

Also: Try to get a good map seed that offer some clusters of towns which let you run in circles to get contracts as soon as they replenish.

Hope that helped! Good luck!

So much depends on settings, to be honest. On expert econ difficulty, scouting contracts are free money with zero risk. They are a godsend. They are great to take while you repair / heal after a fight and you will generally make a profit unless the camp spawned somewhere weird. You can also sometimes snipe the camp if it's weak enough, which means you get at least (!) a signet ring or trading good on top of any normal loot.

Sell anything you don't want, preferably in a town offering 18% or better as I described above.

Unless you are low on tools, repair any tier 2 or higher weapons before you sell them. Don't repair thug tier gear.

You check if it is better they any other weapon of that class that you've seen. That or read the wiki.
