Barbarian king your friend and helper
I still have no clue how to win against barbarians in a fair combat without heavy loses. But you can use the barbarian king quest to clean up heavy defended locations. In my playthrough the barbarians help me to deal with the legions of the dead.

It has been a long standing tactic to use the orc warlord quest to take out various hot spots including the black monolith. The devs changed the legendary locations procedural steps to prevent this.

hmmm, I don't find barbarians that difficult. They're like orcs but can't break your formation. They like to use throwing weapons at you, but it's never enough to be a big issue. Just keep your formation tight and they won't give you too much trouble. Just don't let them double tap you on the first turn with their adrenaline skill.

Barbarian thralls and reavers are relatively easy. Chosens are killing machines who laugh at your armor. I am wondering whether nimble to reduce damage, indomitable to reduce damage, armor attachment to reduce ignore-armor-damage, or deep pockets and a lot of nets to try to catch them one by one are required, or all of them, in order not to be crippled by groups of many chosens.
But yes, narbarians, unholds, orcs, are all great to lead into tough enemies.

Using 2 Pike Hybrids with Whips to disarm 2 Foes, Focusing down 2 more with your frontloaded DPS in Round 2 while absorbing the first nasty hits with Bone Plating and using Nets to slow down 2-3 more is usually enough for me to handle them.
Problematic thing are the camps with aditional Unholds because they can wreck your Formation.

Its possible to win against normal babrabrians. But its not possible to destroy a camp with unholds without "help". Mostly i bring other unholds with.
