Well, the reason I think injuries are a problem is that in some cases you cannot avoid fighting when multiple forces are near you. But I guess it's because I am a clumsy navigator on the map! ;)
Also, I am not sure if great level 20 guys are better than mediocre level 30 guys. It's a difference of some 30 stat points! ;)
That special one on one battle is where the Lone Wolf shines. It was a hard fight and he made me bleed twice but I crushed his armor and it was a good fight. A battle to the death, where game over if I lose.
I have not made any mini sergeants this game. My guys have pretty good resolve and I have had no problems against 24 undead with 6 geists and 1 necro. I still may turn one of my spearmen into mini sergeants. They are both lvl 10 and will think about it when I hit lvl 11.
I'm on day 157. Think I will keep going before I try another origin. Has been a fun campaign. I don't think there's anyway this group could beat the kracken or the Black Monolith but I didn't make the band to do that.
There is a 2H cleaver? You sure? Link?
And what are the average Resolves of your characters? I am finding that my guys can't go over 60 even with Fortified Mind, and I am not sure if that is worth it.
As for the Kraken or the Monolith: What if you strung out your campaign until level 20-plus? Imz Frozen does that, and I am going to try and see how strong such a group can get. But the biggest issue may be that I will always be running with 11 characters, because I'd always leave that last spot free for the 1 better recruit. So it may be never-ending! ;)
Got rid of my hammer brother because I found a sellsword with amazing stats and stars. Will turn him into a 2 handed hammer brother.
Hmm, I thought only crossbows got additional damage with the patch, not bows. I will have to re-read - there was a lot of stuff!
What will you turn the Sellsword into?
For my part, I am having amazing luck with excellent recruits this game. The last game I played to about 120 days, I had 1 permanent "keeper" outside of the Lone Wolf. For the current game at 60 days, I have a whopping 5 already (albeit 1 of the keepers is the gone I re-loaded the seed for to get a 2nd strong character at the first castle - so I can start with 2 uber characters).
Edit: No ranged yet, however. And that worries me.
I was close to starting the raider origin but I'm having too much fun with this campaign.
Yeah, humans are no problem; it's the more heavily armored Orcs and Ancient Undead that will be a main problem with a ranged-centric build.
I wouldn't go literally alone. Even for my first fight, I brought 2 others; and I generally ran 5-6 characters the first 60-70 days. Now I run 8, since I really got lucky with early recruits, and there are a lot of "keepers."
I'm now starting to wonder if you're better off shooting for all tank heavy armor. Not sure how my ranged will hold up. Gonna play it and find out though.
I am going to put at least 1 archer in heavy armor, simply because he's got Paranoid (-30 Initiative) and also insane Melee Attack (57) as well as Melee Defense for a ranged guy. I will then likely have 1 pure archer, 1 crossbow/pike hybrid, and 1 throwing weapons/pike hybrid.
Bandits, Barbarians and animals are massacred, but I avoid orcs and undead(with gheists) like the plague (no bannerman yet, and I'm thinking of skipping him as a whole, everybody picks fortified mind instead)
1 shield bro, 1 ranged guy that I found recently, the rest go with variations of 2 handed stuff :)
Hardest defeated enemies so far - 3 shrats/ 20+ barbarian king groups (I've killed a lot of barbarian kings since my map seed has 3-4 forts in close proximity and the quest spawns often).
DIfficulty Expert, w/o ironman (the occasional load spam is needed to avoid alps and such)
What level are your guys? And will you eventually grow to a 12-man band? Finally, I'd like to see some stats and Backgrounds/Traits on guys you decided to keep.
I decided to start recruiting Cultists: Since I will play till level 20-beyond anyways, why not go for Davkul gear, too? ;)
I am wondering if I will have money problems even with a reduced roster, precisely because I fight far less often.
The big issue with lone wolf ironman (or just lone wolf for that matter) is that you can't have a reserve. On that mission alone, I was jumped by a noble army, another mercenary group, and the other noble army. After 3 days of raiding, most of my bros had injuries and I needed over 60 tools to repair all my gear. Not being able to switch out with reservists sucks because the injured bros were at a high risk to die. When you're at day 100 of your campaign, losing a single bro sucks... and I already lost 2 in the big battle before that mission....
When I alt+f4ed, I tried to retreat from the last noble army, only to have my avatar get engaged by a single war dog and he died...... thought the game was kind of cheap there, considering how bad wardogs are in melee and that my avatar had a huge defense rating. Rest of the army caught on and encircled my avatar...
