MEDIEVAL XCOM?
YES, on the basis of saying that with 80% hit chance in two or three times not giving it ,I COMPARED IT ONLY IN THAT FORM TO XCOM AS I PLAYED IT AND I HAD THE SAME PROBLEMS AND I DO NOT SAY THAT IT IS A PROBLEM IF NOT WHAT ONE LOVES AND HATES

This game has literally NOTHING to do with XCOM except that it's turn-based too, and even then the order of turns are managed differently (team turns vs individual character turns).

People need to stop treating XCOM as the holy grail benchmark of turn-based games.

There was an interview recently where one of the devs said their original vision for BB was a medieval XCOM, where medieval people fight off aliens but think they're monsters from their fairy tales :)

this game is much more complex then firaxis xcom.
limited amunition, wounds system, weapon and armor durability, morale, events, perks, stats.

I have played xcom. It was boring.
In battle brothers i like the characters more. They are different. In xcom it doesn't really matter. They are all the same.
And you have just one campain in xcom with a story. In battle brothers the game is the story.
I like battle bros better, once u complete xcom a few times thats it, battle bros is more a sandbox.

Big fan of this game but I'm not very convinced it is more complex than the new Xcom games. Especially not with the expansion for xcom 2. With the exclusion of armour durability xcom 2 has all of that amd more.

I agree that they're not very alike though.

didnt played war of the chosen but vanila xcom 2 felt shallow compared to other turn based tactics.
battle brothers more similar to games like battletech, but that one pretty shallow too.

All this talk of xcom got me thinking of Phoenix Point. Shame it is an epic exclusive. It looked pretty good from what I saw. The combat seemed like it had a lot more depth to it at least.

Aren't people mixing it up? When you say XCOM (esp. in a sense of being extremely hard) I think the game being referenced is "XCOM: terror from the deep", the sequel to "UFO: Enemy unknown".

The new Firaxis XCOM, while not terrible, was definitely not so impactful, nor so difficult, as the older games. The first UFO/XCOM games do imho resemble Battle brothers a bit. Considering the time when they were released they offered lot of features, they were really ahead of the time.

From the more recent UFO games Xenonauts would be closer match to Battle brothers than Firaxis XCOM.

I doubt it given a lot more people have played Firaxcom than the games from the 90s.

Personally, having never played the games from the 90s whenever I refer to xcom I am referring to the modern iterations.

Edit: Again though I don't really see the resemblance between any xcom and BB.

BB was inspired by the original XCOM (1994), not the new XCOM. At least, that's what the interview said.

I'm beginning to wonder if we've perhaps put more thought into this than the OP intended.
