People need to stop treating XCOM as the holy grail benchmark of turn-based games.
limited amunition, wounds system, weapon and armor durability, morale, events, perks, stats.
In battle brothers i like the characters more. They are different. In xcom it doesn't really matter. They are all the same.
And you have just one campain in xcom with a story. In battle brothers the game is the story.
Big fan of this game but I'm not very convinced it is more complex than the new Xcom games. Especially not with the expansion for xcom 2. With the exclusion of armour durability xcom 2 has all of that amd more.
I agree that they're not very alike though.
battle brothers more similar to games like battletech, but that one pretty shallow too.

What's up with that Overhype?
The new Firaxis XCOM, while not terrible, was definitely not so impactful, nor so difficult, as the older games. The first UFO/XCOM games do imho resemble Battle brothers a bit. Considering the time when they were released they offered lot of features, they were really ahead of the time.
From the more recent UFO games Xenonauts would be closer match to Battle brothers than Firaxis XCOM.
Personally, having never played the games from the 90s whenever I refer to xcom I am referring to the modern iterations.
Edit: Again though I don't really see the resemblance between any xcom and BB.
Oh they have said some more now.
