What determines swordmaster/hedge knight recruits appearing?
Ive heard some things, like that barracks or a tundra citadel effect the spawn rate for these backrounds in cities. But is it exclusive? Can swordmasters/hedge knights appear in cities that DONT have any special recruit buildings?

Also, does stone or wooden watchtower effect possible recruits? Trying to figure out if some of the seeds Ive been playing are inferior because they dont have many barracks. Dont want to play on something if there is NO chance to get the good backrounds. Thanks!

Swordmasters only spawn in Citadels or Large cities AND in very rare cases in stone keep, having a port seems to be a prequisite, I only had them spawn in stone keeps if it had a port.
Having a port overall seem to increase the chances of getting a swordmaster recruit.

Hedge Knights can appear in any of the above with equal chance it seems. Also Raiders only seem to spawn in those, having port seem to also incerase their spawn rate.

iv found them in a citadel without a port on this seed, its too the south of your starting location as the poacher origin seed using CAPS............ QPCMCJIMIO (dont use periods lol)

Ahh I see. I specifically remember finding lots of swordmasters in port cities. Makes sense why theyre so rare then, on most seeds Ive played on the only places with a port are tiny villages.

Edit: I found one in an inland citadel far from any water, so its safe to say its not mandatory, but most likely is a plus for spawn rates.

Thanks!

I don't know the exact mechanics you are looking for, but I will say that you shouldn't care too much about finding a perfect seed that spawns elites more often.

Farmers, Brawlers, and Thieves can carry the game so hard and are almost always easy to find.

Justin sorry if my message confused you, Citadels and Large Cities will spawn SM. However Stone Keep seem to only spawn them if there are ports

The "Draft List Info" tab gives you an idea of how buildings influence recruits in each town: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1AVmLbRrKApi_WvnJ0JDoRJxldmUEmM9pGXsfLICQShY/edit#gid=1458096879
