There is an event where the Monk basically misses home and tells you a way to bribe house "XXXX" just give 2000 gold and he will grease the wheels....
This event is useless. It just improves the relation to the house. Not to citys of this house. You have to wait just a few days for the one house to get no longer hostile to you. For the citys you have to wait 80 days or more. And never attack them.
4 town is decent, not the best but doable. It takes around like a week for the unfriendly house to like u and another 60ish day for the civilian settlement of that house to like you. I think doing noble contract speeds this process up(patrol). The noble house that starts at 0 relationship won't like you till the first crisis hit pretty much. This is assuming you don't attack their patrols/caravans/mercs at all. As for the taxdermist they aren't that important. They are nice, but at the end of the day it isnt needed for a good early game. I rather have good trade route and more settlements for the start than a taxdermist at the beginning.
I think patrol contract makes the settlement friendly. I don't know if i remember it correctly, but I remember the 2 settlements I patrolled turned friendly. I wish i wasn't playing ironman and was playing attention, but if patrol does increase relationship then it would be worth for the event.
And a week or so later Noble War started anyhow :)
Frankly though, the limitation is well worth it, since the boost to loot obtained is pretty significant.
