playing as a lone wolf is impossible
second battle against seven thugs that cant' miss when they attack, they have armor, shields, flails, clubs, knives, swords.
even buying a couple people to join the battle isn't enough.
I have failed at trying to be a lone wolf four times.
game over four times.

You really need to understand the mechanics of morale to be successful. I find priotizing targets instead of round swinging is key. If there is a dagger or a mace wielder, kill them right away. You might get confident too. Most likely 2 - 3 of the enemy will start to waver as well. When they go in for the surround that is when you round swing, hopefully you still have confident before you do.

Also picking ideal fighting locations is key. At level 5 you can take on 4 - 6 raiders if you choose where you make your stand wisely.

This is the second fight or first fight as lone wolf. Just go and get my such such back and fight seven thugs. That guy with the shield blocked everything. I am going to keep trying though.
new game after new game.
you advice on taking on targets sounds like Sound Advice thanks!

Just watch some streamers and see how they do it. Also, this origin is meant to be hard, so if you die a lot everything's working juuust fine :P

I did beat this game by the way and finish everything before the new DLC so I am not exactly new to Battle Brothers.

wonders on wonders I finally beat a battle of seven thugs. I just made it with tons of injuries that are healing now. yea that was the first battle!

I'd also recommend getting veteran training before your first battle. That, along with student, should put you at lv 5 immediately. The next two fights will get you to level 6. Once you are there, life is much easier.

good advice I just got killed by pack of Dire Wolves which reminds me my game of 546 days the best battle I ever saw was 26 Dire wolves against 16 raiders. It was Vicious! The Dire Wolves tore those raiders to shreds....I love the FX for Dire Wolves it's very well done!

yo OP, if u want i can send u link to one streamer's YT channel where he runs EEL/Ironman lone wolf campaign, he even tells in first episode where u can cut corners if u r not playing on ironman like not taking fortified mind as soon as possible to endure moral cheks on being surrounded witch is also necesary for ur swing to work witch is ur main hit for like first 40 days
strangecat May 29, 2019 @ 3:59pm
naa I am just going to die it's fine. Of course I am playing Ironman! fortified mind for moral checks as lone wolf sounds good!

Build: student > fortified mind > brawny > sword > underdog (or LW) > berserk > frenzy > Indomitable > Forged > Recover + anything

Start by purchasing xp boost for 5 battles, sell your meat if there are cheaper options (grain), buy tools. Only agree to caravan escorts or terrified villagers contracts, if there are none, go north try to stick to the forests.

The key to surviving early lone wolf is managing enemy numbers until you get to lvl 6 at least. To do that there are following options
1) Caravan guards are meat shields/distraction, enemy will prefer them allowing you to kill off most of the thugs
2) Terrorized villagers usually are webknechts/narcheizers/direwolfs - all are usually doable unless you are very unlucky. Try to find elevation. For nachs WAIT until they surround you, even if it means taking a few hits. Then swing - you can kill nachs with 1 hit usually. Their AI will make them move onto corpse giving you atakcs of opportunity, usually resulting in a very easy encounter. Elevation really matter. If you cant find elevation retreat and try again
3) Pacifying graveyards is 30% to get narcheizers, go for it. If its thugs or zombies - run/cancel
4) Forests is your friend. It is full of places where no more than 1 or 2 enemies can engage you at once, thus you can easily kill 6 thugs in a forest.
5) North is amazing - thralls are easier than thugs bc of their weak armor and also there are plenty of forest in the north. Try to go there
6) DO NOT accept contracts to "rebuild watchtower", "drive off brigands" , "follow tracks" etc. anything above 4 thugs is really hard to do unless you're really lucky. by the way 4 raiders is doable in the forest but can be luck dependant.

You will earn aprox 600-800 exp per fight allowing you to level up quickly. when your armor is damaged go for delivery quests or just camp (faster repair). Once you hit level 6 you can do smaller groups of thugs if you get elevation. Once you get level 7 (berserk) thugs/thralls become fodder and exp will overflow.

Doing this route you will achieve lvl 11 within 20 days, from there on I prefer to accumulate lots of gold and hire premium ppl, early swordmasters are amazing btw, they eat thugs for breakfast. I usually get group of 6 ppl by day 40 , 10-12 ppl by day 70.

This is for EELI

PS: LW perk is amazing power boost at lvl 6 , but it useless once you start hiring, so I recomend slower but better approach by dumping LW perk and taking underdog on lvl 6 instead.

Clearly you are not experienced enough to try this 3-skull difficulty start.
