That way, you can kill the damage dealers in two hits instead of wasting time trying to kill the always shieldwalling frontline - while eating Pikes.
You don't need Flails, but yes, cleavers are pretty useless, throwing weapons meh.
I have 80 HP for my FrontBros, so they can stand in Miasma for a couple of rounds - there is no easy way to get rid of Priests, AFAIK.
If your guys have great melee skill, then 2h hammers are amazing vs. skeletons, but if you're having you're having trouble with shieldwall and don't want to do the cheese strat (?) where you back up one tile so they can't shieldwall and you get two rounds in a row, you can definitely give your guys polearms or use tanks to block the shields so your other guys can flank.
Also, flails are better than missing vs. skeletons, so if that's what you have and your guys have lowish melee skill, I recommend it. Even 2h flail can be very workable vs. skeletons.
Interested to try the bardiche vs. skeletons, as the split attack should be great at reaching the backline.
Honour guard are the worst though, very high armour and they carry 2 handed weapons a lot of the time which can bleed you or destroy your armour.
Holy water helps with this. If you have a monk you may get random events where he gives you a bottle of it, but theres always a spot on the map where you can get at least 1, sometimes 3 if you play it out right.
If you haven't done so already take the ambition which requires you to destroy places controlled by the undead. You get rewarded with a trinket which prevents fear and mind control on the brother equipped with it. Very useful.
Lastly they don't seem to suffer from the stupidity that human pikemen do where they will occasionally put their pikemen in the front line, which makes them a pain, if you can you could shield bash the corners of their formation to get to the pikes faster but that will leave those units surrounded. And for obvious reasons; fear and injures do not help you here
Though easiest way to deal with legoins is using current king of weapons - billhook. I'm currently writing a guide how to deal with monolith in midgame using peasant militia start, but while it's not ready you may watch this:
Just throw in a net or two with the right timing or use terrain to stop the shieldbearers from engaging firt and let the pikes pass on. if their backline reaches you before their frontline, they are fodder.
