Battle Brothers is a turn based tactical RPG - Nope
From reading and arguing a bit, game description on store page is pretty wrong and very misguiding. Tactical level is questionable, not that deep and heavily based on excessive RNG.

Strategy layer and management is the depth of the game. Game store description should have been something like: "Roguelike strategy game with tactical and RPG elements".

It would have avoid me lost so much time to wonder if it's a game for me or not.

Just curious how you define "Strategic" vs. "Tactical"?

The game is turn based, check. The game is an Role Playing Game, check. The game is tactical, for sure. There are plenty of tactics in this game that you can implement into your crew to better your standing in the world. The perk tree and leveling system provides for variability in your individual character builds, if you so desire. The game has noticeable amounts of RNG, but once you figure out the basics and a way to play the game using strategy and tactics, the RNG only becomes a minor factor. The RNG is still there, but through good perk and stat building the RNG is very nullified past the mid game.

Battle Brothers confirmed Game of the Year tactical shooter. CoD completely taken by storm.

The only thing I see that's wrong in the store label is that they MAYBE could've added "management simulator" lol other than that... It's fairly accurate.

I hate to break it to you, every single RPG ever made is basically RNG based, since like forever. Ever played any pen and paper RPG (the things that all computer RPGs as a genre were based on)? they ooze RNG from dice rolls to whatever mood the GM is in at the time.

It is exactly what it says it is. Turn based? check. Tactical? well you have a grid and you move guys into postion and set up strats based on what foes you face, so check there. RPG: the entire concept is you are incharge of a merc company, each merc you have has a backstory, stats, levels up gains skills. Story elements, low magic fantasy realm. Each quest have flavor text and story behind it? big check

You are objectively wrong with your assessment, like super duper bad.
Turn based tactical rpg pretty much describes the game.

Tactics > RNG once you are established

this

in addition, tactical and statregy games can be with or without RNG

To say tactics > RNG is actually false. While good tactics can theoretically mitigate RNG as a deciding factor, you are always rolling dice for nearly every move you make.Even under the absolute best of scenarios, you always have a 5% chance to fail or to be hit by an enemy attack and can never fully remove that. Regardless of what your plan is, you if actually hit that 5% several times at key moments, you can easily lose a fight you otherwise had well in hand, however unlikely that is.

If you lose the fight for unlucky hits and misses with 5%, its your fault, if few unlucky misses or hits can destroy your formation = that means you are doing samething really wrong with tactics/decisions/logistics.

Also, you cant win all fights in early game. Sametimes you need to run away.

Your fundemental inability to grasp this concept isn't relevent.
NM9G Jan 5, 2018 @ 1:13pm
Ulrich, don't bother explaining anything to The Pollie, he won't understand and believes he is cursed to be unluckly, when in reality he just doesn't understand how to mitigate RNG despite many ways being explained to him.
Let's not have the RNG discussion in two seperate threads please.
