Do wages/hiring fee give you some hint?
I've watched LPs and thinking of buying this game but I have one question:

What's use of wages/hiring fee info as an indicator, respectively?

Total random. There is base stats, talents and traits. More expensive guys have more likely better base but higher salary. So often beter find cheep one, with reliable base, but with good traits and talents, than hire expensive good base without talents and traits. For later game you can little bit raise stats, but good traits you can`t achive. Only Drunkard very rare.

So if I am confident that I can keep a guy alive for long, I should hire those with relatively low wages? I somehow thought high fee = good gear and high wage = good stats. I'm just curious about the difference between wage and hiring fee in what it means for the bro's stats/equipment.

When you hire someone, you pay a fee based on their profession and level. You also purchase all their equipment at market value. Since all you usually care about is the man himself, buying a guy with expensive gear is a huge gamble. Patiently waiting for a poorly equipped candidate of your preferred background can be a big money saver.

Nicknames can be a useful clue in discerning a man's talent, because they are associated with traits. Karl the Ox is likely a better mercenary than regular old Karl, because he probably has something like "Tough" or "Strong". Karl the Craven is probably worse than a standard Karl, because he'll have a morale penalty. A good nickname doesn't guarantee a good mercenary, but it helps tip the odds in your favor.

Professions are your main indicator, though. A Sellsword or Hedgeknight is way more likely to be a talented fighter than a Cripple or a Beggar is. Generally, the more expensive a class is, the better they are. Just keep track of gear, because it inflates their cost without having an effect on the man's attributes.

Thanks, made me understood a little better.

Are wages indicator, too? Assuming I'm hiring two guys with the same background, if one has higher wage does it grantee better stats or traits?

No just better equipment. As love right says, only nicknames might give some insight. But it`s same gamble. Don`t think too much, hire / fire / keep, it`s one of the game things to do all the time, searching him... ~the best bro~...

Wages are tied to background and level; for example, all Level 2 Farmhands are paid the same amount. If you see two characters with the same background and level but a different daily wage, the more expensive one has the "Greedy" trait. You'll probably want to avoid hiring him.
