Yes you can. Press the x button on the left corner of the inventory screen. :)

You have to pay him his retirement money though or the other mercs will get a morale drop.

There is a cross near his name. Press it.

better to pay the compensation too, prevents any morale loss.

thanks this is much better than live bait/sacrifice

Not sure. As bait/fodder you at least get some use out of them. You already paid for hiring them or recieved them by event, Might as well let them die in glory.

Edit:
Or in case of perm-injured mercs keep them as reserves and mascots.

Does losing a brother give a worse morale penalty than firing them without pay? If it does, then it seems like I have been wasting money by paying compensation because the morale penalty from losing a brother isn't even that bad if you have a few +s. But if it doesn't, then it seems like a pretty easy way to get rid of extra hands without spending hundreds of gold.

Either way, I think I've been wasting money by paying compensation :/

My beloved No Nose deserved every cfoin of that 660 retirement money. Enjoy your golden years you one-eyed, no nosed, traumitized archer.

Sufficiently perma-injured and disloyal characters are one of the most valuable resources in the game. They make it so much easier to manage morale with a large reserve :D

I like to hire non-combatan person that can trigger positive event and try to get them perma-injured so they don't get pissy for being in reserve too long.
