[MODS] Revealing skills of recruits
Been testing different strategies in Expert recently and (once again) see how much difference the early results differ dependent on the quality I get by random when recruiting. This has been pointed out many times before and deemed as part of the game and there are of course upsides with not revealing stats of recruits. Or ... rather.. (imo) there are aspects that such system strives to achieve that can be achieved in other ways without the obvious draw back of frustration or save/reload.

We know that devs are working at their last big update before release and I am looking forward to all new cool feature and end game crisis. But I assume (with good reason) that the things that I personally dislike in the recrutiment lottery won't be changed - the upsides are simply regarded as more desirable for most users I assume.

Still, if possible and enough users think like I do, I would like to already now ask for mod support to choose to reveal recruits in order to avoid the annoyance of random rewards/penalty. The downside with this could of course be that game balance is basedon getting sucky recruits, but the fact is that you also get cheap super recruits without any merit of your own. And if I know everything I will only pick the great ones. So the MOD should probably include some increase in cost or other increased difficulty to balance things out. Tricky things when not coming from devs, but still :)

Anyhow... not sure how hard it will be to mod this, or if someone with skill and time are interested in doing it .. or if there is an audience for it (although I asume there is). Just a heads up!

(edit: I am more experienced in leading programming projects than programming myself, but I am a bit curious to look how hard it will be myself... cause unless I can recruit some of my employees to the game I cannot motivate putting them on making odds on company time ;)

There's always room for more mods. Im sure some people hate the hiring mechanics too and would gladly accept and download a mod like this! Myself I think the "lottery" system is a part of the game and it's RNG challenge :) But perhaps I'll try this for some runs as well.

Would love to help, but ain't got sh*t's worth of experience in programming or coding :v

I think so too! But I fear they won't include som balancing mechanic so the game won't just get easier.

I would also be interested in some kind of "forced" recruits so no choice at all so I would be forced to play with interesting backgrounds and traits :)

Of course! I know many that do! It's probably my control issue that screams high. I don't mind when i get randomly sucky or great recruits in Rimworld, but I dislike when I get a choice of recruit, but it's a " lottery" where I cannot make a basic selection of whteher people are fat, small and so on. I am not playing the realistic card here really, I just dislike that :)

Always fun to try a different approach, although if one do not get annoyed with the lack of control and choice in the recruitment phase, the game is likely balanced better playing as intended.

Thanks! Although... if you COULD program you and I might dream up a mod even more interesting for more ;)

Thanks for th input regardless.

Don't worry, you're not the only one, there was a discussion at some point last year and i remember quite a few(myself included) wanting either a complete removal of the RNG involved in recruiting or at least a way to see what they get. It doesn't really even make sense within the context of the game, that we can get "screwed" on some recruits with things like them being "fat" or other obviously visible negative traits. I'd love to have the choice to pay for a preview of their traits or something. I don't really get the argument that it'd make the game easier, look at Darkest Dungeon, you can see what you get and it does not make the game easier in any way imho.

Sounds promising!

About the game getting easier: It wouldn't get easier by default just because you have a choice in recruits, it's all about balancing. But if the game relies on people needing to play with sucky recruits or scum them with money to get reasonable ones, then perhaps that makes the game more difficult. I believe, however, that most savescum to avoid this annoyance, so a reveal mod would mostly save time.

Well i for one don't savescum recruits, mostly because i'm too lazy to do it. What bothers me is that it's simply "unrealistic" to not notice certain things about characters you're recruiting, it should at least come up in the small bio or something, your character is crippled not brain damaged :)

Perhaps you should be able to "Interview" any possible recruits, which would essentially just be an additional button next to each recruit on the hiring screen, and pressing it would drop them a few coins in exchange for them revealing all (or some of) their traits. How about this? Shall we scream until we get this? :D

Maybe you could see the stats a new recruit has - who would spend thousands on someone without at least sparring with him - but the talents (stars) will only be revealed after a handfull of fights or at a certain level.
