That's pretty good, too bad it's rd instead of melee defense though. The only unique shield I have is not spectacular (found it, wouldn't have bought it). It's Sir Roland's Bastion... 20 md, 20 rd, -19 fatigue, 50 durability. So sort of like a tower shield with good durability. I use it on a tank who has a lot of fatigue. I mostly use it for the durability - so I don't carry an extra shield but it has better defenses than the metal orc ones.
I've found a couple rare metal round shields that offer up to 25 melee defense and middling ranged defense. The problem is that with such high melee defense almost any enemy with an axe will chop the shield instead of trying to hit you. Even with mastery it only takes one rough encounter to lose it forever.
Late game I usually wind up using orc shields. They can have quite good defense values, the durability to actually survive heavy combat, and often have significantly reduced fatigue values. Fatigue values in the 12-14 range are pretty common. The shields themselves are relatively easy to find too, having a chance to be carried by orc warriors or warlords in virtually any large orc encounter.
Yes, that pavise-type of shield is the best I found. I looted after taking out a huge Orc city. (I still wish that such cities gave a legendary - like the Black Monolith and the Goblin City - though.)
Yup. Those round shields have about the same durability as regular kite shields, and that's not enough. But the pavise shield has about 50 percent more than kite shields.
This is the route I take, too. Otherwise my spearmen get stripped of his shields in a few turns; and I don't want to gimp his Fatigue more by taking an extra.
Did you have Shield Mastery? It's a bit unusual to have them broken with Shield Mastery.
Some of the named orc shields are great. I have a couple bros in my current campaign that carry them all the time because I get too lazy in changing equipment out.
Hmmm. My pavise has 72 durability, and it has not come close to breaking; and I've fought waves of Orcs. I have found going from 48 (regular kite shield) to 72 to be of huge difference.

Durability is key; and these kite shields rarely have over 50. I think you need over 70 to ensure they are preserved. My pavise shield has not broken in over 200 turns, and that's durability 72. But the 48-50 kite shields regularly break.

Day (actually, night) 71, assaulting a outpost of goblins after a tevern rumor of someone "dropping a mastercraft shield" while running away from goblins ^^
(got that shaman too, héhé.)
I see. So no shield users? What is your company composition then? Primarily 2H guys?
