Thanks :)
Does the wolf have special attacks or stats, or is it basically a dog x 1.5?
But regular wolves as enemies have natural armor. You've seen that this kind of dog has no natural armor? If so then yeah not worth having other than looking cool.
(yes, I know this is an old thread, anybody who has experience with this can answer).
has more base health than a regular dog, but does TWICE the damage and acts even faster. pretty sure it has higher base defense stats too.
so, if you want a dog that can actually hurt things, the wolf is quite useful. really shines against gobbos. don't use them against strong melee troops.... use them against shaman/goblin archers. I had one even take down a goblin overseer once.
They hit twice as hard, that's good. Is their hit accuracy different? Melee defense? How many hits can they take compared to an armored war dog? Sounds overall similar from your description, but with less defense and more offense. But in a dog, I'd rather they be better at surviving than hit harder.
I don't have a save where I can check for a Wolf but the stats for Wardogs are HP 50, Melee Skill 50, Melee Def 20, Ranged Def 25 (may need rechecking). Armored Wardogs add 55 body armor with otherwise essentially same stats. I don't have exact damage ranges but I've recorded regular Wardogs doing 21-28 hp damage, whereas armor damage lies in the low teens, not exactly a huge help against armored foes. They strike twice per turn just like most units but are able to move a few hexes and still perform the 2 strikes.
otherwise?
it's typically a waste to use a wolf, since they are so rare.
armored dogs are great to use practically anytime. they add distraction, allow you to use them to maneuver, and chase down those pesky archers, giving you time to close the gap with your melee fighters.
that said... in my current game (greenskin invasion), the greenskins destroyed the town that has the kennels so no more doggies in this current game for me. I rather like that enemies can perma destroy entire towns. gives the game more replay value.
