Berserk for xbow, is it worth it?

I think so, but only if you are using quickhands and polearm. You can shoot, kill, reload, shoot. But you can't then reload, kill, then reload again. Expect to get an extra shot only once every three turns or so.

Not hybrid, pure xbow, is it worth it?

Then no. (imo)

Cheers, I'll replace it with headhunter. Also, killing frenzy for xbow, yay or nay

It allows you to fire an extra shot at least once a battle and can allow you to move after a kill to reposition if you don't have enough AP to reload. As my crossbowmen are hybrids (indeed all crossbowmen should be since you need less Ranged skill than an archer to be effective) it's a no-brainer to take Berserk. My crossbowmen use Warscythes and Berserk can allow me to Reap twice in a row.

Definitely worth it IMHO.

What exact perks do you use for that hybrid?

Yay to killing frenzy. And headhunter is essential for crossbowmen! Again, just my opinion.

I don't get benefits of headhunter for low rate of fire weapons.

Doesn't it only spread your damage to head/body? Or is headshot by crossbow powerful enough to severely injure or kill highly head-armored opponent in one shot?

I would take it. After using dedicated crossbows for a while i got dissapointed with their mobility - berserk defenitely helps with that. Also that 2 shot volley from xbows could be devastating as hell, not to mention that engagements are not that long and that additional very powerful shot counts.

@ Coocoodas
It is good enough to kill in one shot, though perhaps not highly head-armoured. I would just take that over beserk if he is taking pure crossbow builds. However, I agree with Barahur. You really should make crossbowmen hybrid.

Highly head armored - no, medium armored - probably. My 270/240 merc with battleforged got 30hp damage from head hit - they do pierce armor well on head hits, however, yeah it might not worth due to low rate of fire.

Perks for a crossbow/polearm hybrid?
Stormbrooke May 4, 2017 @ 12:29am
I always put Quickhands and Beserk on my crossbow/polearm builds.

Shoot 2 AP
Switch (free)
Stab 4 AP
if kill, then remaining 3 AP becomes 7 AP, either reload or stab again

If you only have one hybrid I could see pathfinder being useful to ensure you can always move from target to target and still attack each round. Might even allow you to move and still be able to reload.

My crossbowmen always have:
Crippling Strikes
Quick Hands
Anticipation
Crossbow Mastery
Axe Mastery
Footwork
Beserk
Head Hunter

Optionally:
Fast Adaptation
Bullseye
Dodge
Pathfinder
Nimble
Killing Frenzy
Brawny

Edit:
Billhook is just as good as axe (for different reasons).
I always take Student first.

Fast Adaptation

I have been thinking a lot about this lately because the hybrids having to concentrate on both range and melee attack often have the lowest attack values. Was wondering if Fast Adaptation made sense for the build for this reason.

Edit: well I guess that's not always true I suppose your three investment stats could be range, melee, and a third stat (e.g. initiative, range defense).

What 3 stats do you all usually prioritize for stars for your hybrids?
