You obtain enemy armor by not destroying it entirely, so if you want that Bandit Leader's Direwolf Chainmail have your guys surround and Equip Daggers using the Puncture skill to directly attack HP same principle applies to head armor as well.
All bros can equip Orc weapons yes, but that doesn't mean they should, you need a large amount of fatigue to use them, so it really comes down to their individual stats.
If you retreat after losing 2 or 3 brothers mid-game you have enough gold to rebuild. I once rebuilt after losing 5 brothers. If you lose 8-10 bros its going to be very hard to rebuild on ironman
Orc weapons are alright for bros who have iron lungs, so the extra fatigue cost kind of balances itself out. Also, I've heard that famed orc cleavers are best in game.
As far as everything beyond that, the others have pretty much covered it.
If you pretty much wipe you need to know that you can't just trottle on, you need to change the mindset.
Is it hard? yeaaah boii it is... but you can do it.
