Hook/repel
Does anybody consistently use either of these abilities? While on the same topic does anyone use the destroy shield skill on anything other than bandits/auxileries

I wouldn't call it "consistently", but I do occasionally repel the ancient dead to set up a new spearwall, I suppose the same tactic could work against Direwolves, Wiedergangers and any other opponent that rushes into your spears, but most of them aren't worth the trouble.

Other than that, I just use repel if the opportunity rises to push an opponent down multiple levels to give my melee guys a break.

I really like Split Shield, but I do use it mainly against those opponents, but maybe also against noble house troops if there's war crisis in the late game or you decide to raid one faction early on.

I smash shields every chance I can unless I have someone surrounded, or mostly surrounded, then it's easy to kill them even with a shield. Some of my front liners keep a spare axe for just that purpose.

Spearwall is great against a large number of enemies. It's a free attack on just about anything moving within range, and a chance to push them back. I've seen many types of enemies just walk into it over and over basically skewering themselves in the process. I do notice that certain enemies don't tend to rush in, or they'll shield wall first, then walk in which reduces the chance of landing a solid hit. Of course your spear using characters need a good hit %, and it helps a lot to have spear mastery.

yeah, not just bandits and aux, also AD, raiders, orc young have weak shields and sometimes even goblins, they are soft, but they have high evade chance and destroying shield is worth it sometimes.
As for hook or repel, never use it personally.

Repel, maybe, hook never, reason why? In order to hook, it means that the person has to be two tiles away, and that means your polearms (who should never be front liners) are guess what, in the front line (or v rare other circumstances were this would be applicable)

Played this game a lot and i never used the hook.....

Never used hook, but have used repel. Mainly to give an injured guy some breathing room, or to stop giant Nazchecher's from eating bros (since they have to start the turn in base contact to do so).

I rarely break shields anymore. Sometimes bandits, but mostly just goblins and Fallen Heroes.

I've hooked stuff off high ground for funsies but it doesn't do enough damage to matter much. Repel mostly to push back Orc Warriors that smash through the front line if it's a bad smashthrough.

Once I get some more bros higher level in my current run on Ironman expert (I'm never going to get to this goal) I plan on doing all heavy armor, front row billhooks, back row pikes.. and then hook & repel to my hearts content.

Are you sure about pushing orc warriors? I don't think they can be shoved/hooked/repelled.

I'm fairly certain Orc Warriors can't be repelled? I mean I tried it a fair few times one battle but it was a while ago. Left with a very distinct feeling it can't be done.

yes, orc warriors are too heavy for a human to be able to move him around, push with shield, repel and hook doesn't work. Works on orc young though, should work on zerks too

I've used Repel a few times, can save a bro in danger.

Hook, maybe once. When I had some guys nearby who were waiting to go and the hook would enable more damage dealt by the surround.

But outside of that 1 time, nope.

I was playing a game last night where I was up on this mountain and there was this 2 elevation hole right in the middle that was only a single hex.

An enemy used Hook to pull one of my units into the hole.

I couldn't get out. I couldn't attack.

He was stuck in the hole for the rest of the battle completely taken off the board by that one use of Hook.

It was the best use of Hook I have seen.

Repel I use fairly often

Hook I use nearly never!!!
