I havr my starting bro with Brute and he was the axe dude.
I can give him a one-hander or a two-hander or a poleaxe and he can play any spot.
With Axe Mastery and Head Hunter he can reliably use the Orc One-hander for massive damage.
Even the Orc Man Splitter, whilst it's high fatigue to wield (It's like ~30 ) makes it cumbersome,
can be used by him fairly well by him.
You just need to get him to a high enough fatigue score and max out his melee defence so he can get up close and personal.
Unless you plan to use Beserk Chain A lot. Makes that Pound Skill extra lethal
The axe with 2 tiles range has a bonus chance to hit the head.
coz in the lategame all frontliners are either heavy armor dudes with 2handers (2h axes are great too, they have the best single target attack when it comes to dmg) or use spears, coz spearwall has by far the highest utility of all 1h weapons.
a battle axe is also the way better weapon compared to normal flail, even if you wanted to use him as a 1h.
but all weapons benefit somehow a little when you hit more often in the head with them :)
Also there's Pikes. +10% chance to hit on impale and they have increased headshot %.
For Raw Damage output sure.
But Chain ignores shields, comes with a chance to stun, and Thresh works like Round Swing but with an additional chance to hit head.
Having that high fatigue bro to use it though is the hard part.
That too, but the mastery skill would be crucial, otherwise if your recruit using it gets absolutely exhausted, they won't be able to attack at all.
Mastery and Recover are a must.
You might get away with not having Recover in a high fatigue bro or a bro with Iron Lungs.
