Your first run will likely be your longest and it is not uncommon for it to take a day or two to reach the point you should ascend.
Push up to zone 140, acquire as many hero levels in total as you can as you will recieve one Hero Soul for every 2000 levels total.
I think the first time I ascended was after getting to level 115-120 or so, I got impatient. Worked out just fine. It would have probably been better if I waited longer, but I figured I'd rather just start over with some extra goodies than wait a day just for 5-10 more levels.
The longer you can wait, the more of a difference it'll make, but, yeah... at least wait a bit.
Use clickstorm+powersurge+lucky strikes and if available energize+super clicks thats how i beat the stage 145 one :D
Some folks are saying level 140 because that is the first natural plateau point. There are many such places in the game where progress grinds to a halt, and that is the first one. You may even get hung there for your first couple of ascentions. You think you are grinding now, wait until you get to lvl 140.
Also you don't have to stop buying heroes when you get the last upgrade. If you can't afford the next upgrade/hero, go back and buy hundreds of the earlier heroes. You will gain DPS/click damage and you get a Hero Soul when you level up 2000 times, so that is a cheap way to pick up HS, plus that little damage boost may be enough to push you over the edge for beating a Boss.
Let's say you're stuck on Lv.115 boss (TOTALLY NOT MY CASE.), do you farm on Lv.114 until you have enough money to try Lv.115 again or do you go even more backwards to kill monsters quickly ?
I'm not sure what's more efficient.
