A. The ones with damage modifiers equal to or above 400% total in their skills
B. The ones you can afford to buy in sets of 25. (hold z when buying to buy in sets of 25 levels)
Eventually you stop leveling Frostleaf completely because he doesn't have good damage modifiers, so he stops being worth anything.
Once you get to level 1000 with the characters I mentioned, Frostleaf will really stop being worth the money you put into him.
(Characters get 10x damage at level 1000)
DO NOT I repeat, DO NOT buy character levels in single levels anymore. Only aim for the next level that multiplies damage, which is every 25.
(Until you can afford Dread Knight, that is!)
Treebeast, Ivan Betty Clicker and masked samurai (+Forest Seer) are enough.
Masked Samurai has the best Damage/Gold Ratio but you should get the first three to ~1075/50/25 then samurai 1000 and then add +25 down that list.
When you got enough gold, get Forest Seer to 1000 and just level these five in x25 steps until you are earning U Gold.
Masked Samurai 1100 should be enough and then save for Dread.
You meant NOT Betty Clicker right? Just the ones that have the nice % bonuses?
Yes i've noticed that, which is why i felt hopeless 2 days ago =P But now i have 2 ancients and 100+ hero souls i'm beginning to see how it all works. It's a great game i have to say and i never thought i would about a "clicker"!
OK thanks for the link - I was frustrated for like 2 days coz i couldn't get past 140 without using all my skills together, but now i can idle him. I am starting to get this game but i know i'll need to use some brains to continue. I'm on 180 and counting... (i know it goes to 4K+)
A good tool to help pick what units to level up is this: http://vikestep.github.io/Clicker-Heroes-Calculator/ . Just level stuff up until you have all the upgrades (up too Frostleaf.)
It really depends on what stuff is doing (like ancients/gilds) to know what unit will be giving the most dmg per level up.
Mine seems to like Beastlord for he has 5 gilds on him and i have Argaiv boost the gilds 10%.
Same as Natalia who has 3 gilds.
Now I'm doing a deep run ad the moment, got 61hs ready. Those help with getting gilds and achievements.

And.. before you have a ton of gilds you can use this tool and follow what it tells you to degild your heroes for 2 hero souls each and move them to the top ancients for beginning levels.
http://theriebel.de/gilding/
After following the initial degilding this page suggests you'll want all your gilds on only 1-2 heroes. By the point you want them all on one hero you should have enough souls to do it with the 80 souls each time option. Cost me around 8k souls when I was ready to move everything from brittany/ivan to samurai. Eventually they'll all go to one of the ring bearers but that's going to take a while..
