How to get past the 145-150 level?

I've ascended 5 times and i'm stopped here every time. I currently have 55 hero souls saved. I just can't seem to get enough for the dread knight.

You need to pay more attention to leveling the first three heros, and then Mysterious Samuari to level 1000.
At 55 souls, those 4 at level 1000 will get you potentially into 190. Key word, Potentially.
Get the Ancients suggested above, or read the FAQ.

Relics can help you here, if you are lucky.
Don't worry about Dread Knight, his cost is expensive enough that you probably won't get him until level 250.

Thanks m8. I ended up just spending about 30 of those souls on libertas and dora. Going to start hoarding hero souls again though.

Yeah, Libertas can help. Keep in mind, Treasure chests have a base 1/100 spawn rate, or 1%, and maxed Dora only brings it up to 10%.
That's a lot more than 1%, but you won't find a major improvement too soon. :)

Other suggestions, if you're going Libertas, is the Idle Ancient that gives damage, she's extremely helpful.
Just don't put too many hero souls in her, there's this weird formula you have to follow to make her effecient. 30 souls banked for level 2 I think. Sylphanus or something is her name.
All I know is she's helpful, just confusing. :)

After you can get to level 200 fairly quickly, I think thagt's considered a good time to work for hte Prime Boss spawning ancient. It may be farther after that.

I'm currently working on him myself, but he's not super important early game, from what I read.
If I am mistaken, please correct me.

I'm up to level 246 as my highest, and Dread Knight, despite a lot of reducuction in hero cost is sitll outside my range just yet.
But eventually, the game will throw money at you like it's going out of style. :)
